Weapon allowance (in Changelog)

AdminJonathan April 3 2008 12:04 PM EDT

Weapon allowance for PR calculations has been halved.

(There is no "weapon allowance" for encumbrance; instead, ST is included as a "main" factor.)

(I do not have a good way to unify encumbrance and pr calculations.)

Tezmac April 3 2008 12:05 PM EDT

Sweeeeeeeeeet...

AdminNightStrike April 3 2008 12:05 PM EDT

Then is it safe to say that Encumbrance is armor only?

AdminJonathan April 3 2008 12:06 PM EDT

> Then is it safe to say that Encumbrance is armor only?

no

Relic April 3 2008 12:23 PM EDT

How can I tell what my WA is now?

AdminJonathan April 3 2008 12:28 PM EDT

same way you could before, times 0.5

Lord Bob April 3 2008 12:32 PM EDT

Wonderful, a double nerf for tanks.

Things are quickly going downhill.

Ryuzaki April 3 2008 12:33 PM EDT

mageblender go?

Lord Bob April 3 2008 12:35 PM EDT

Yep, it looks like we're back on our way to Mage Blender again.

With the last few changes, suddenly selling out is looking more and more like an attractive option.

lostling April 3 2008 12:37 PM EDT

provided anyone wants to buy your stuff

Lord Bob April 3 2008 12:40 PM EDT

Tell me about it. I think all my items just became useless. And to think I just insta-ed up to Tezmac's 38 mill Morgul Hammer. What a tremendous waste of cash.

This is just what I feared: another Bob nerf.

Tezmac April 3 2008 12:43 PM EDT

I wish I hadn't sold it and rather disenchanted it down to base. You can do the same and still make money on the insta.

miteke [Superheros] April 3 2008 3:13 PM EDT

The money will be worthless if no one can spend it on equipment.

Tezmac April 3 2008 3:13 PM EDT

Buy BA?

Lord Bob April 3 2008 3:26 PM EDT

With Encumbrance now in effect is there any need at all for a Weapon Allowance nerf? I mean, large NW weapons already count against us once. Why let them work against us twice?

I vote to un-nerf WA, or even double it now that we have much better incentives not to over-equip.

Talion April 3 2008 3:29 PM EDT

"I vote to un-nerf WA, or even double it now that we have much better incentives not to over-equip."

So now that less armor can be equipped on your opponents, you want to be able to wield a bigger weapon? I think not.

Lord Bob April 3 2008 3:37 PM EDT

How am I able to wield a bigger weapon? Encumbrance now ensures that would work against me.

No, I just want to make better use of the weapons that I have been using without penalty until today.

tasuki [UFC] April 3 2008 7:33 PM EDT

poor new characters...

Encumbrance 0.99
HP 20
ST 20
DX 20
AC 0

equipping a 100 NW weapon.

AdminNightStrike April 3 2008 10:00 PM EDT

Why would you put a 100m NW weapon on a new character?

tasuki [UFC] April 3 2008 10:46 PM EDT

where's the 'm'?

AdminNightStrike April 3 2008 10:50 PM EDT

Right next to the "3" in my XP count............

:)

Phrede April 4 2008 8:51 AM EDT

You think you've got problems :)

Phoenix [The Forgehood] April 4 2008 9:43 AM EDT

Of course, it's obviously a freed nerf more than anything else.
(470 AC!??! seriously!)

Phrede April 4 2008 10:31 AM EDT

I will return :)

Tezmac April 4 2008 10:33 AM EDT

I hope so, the huge wall is indeed inspiring. :O)

QBRanger April 4 2008 6:01 PM EDT

Can anyone explain why the WA was 1/2?

Now that we have ENC to prevent super duper large weapons on minions, why change the weapon allowance?

Now tanks have to use smaller weapons then they could in the past or get their PR up, all the time watching their ENC to stay under it.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] April 4 2008 6:34 PM EDT

ENC is (usually for a Tank) larger than the new 50% WA. ;)

Brakke Bres [Ow man] April 4 2008 7:05 PM EDT

Why is it only half what it first was?

Easy to stop the influence of USD on this game. Now you actually need to carefully plan in which areas you want to spend your cash in. Not just pump everything to get an uber strat.

You want a big weapon on your tank?
You do so at the loss of armor nw.
You want a lot of armor on your tank?
You do so at the loss of weapon nw

And did it work?

iBananco [Blue Army] April 4 2008 7:08 PM EDT

Except we're talking about WA, not Encumbrance.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] April 4 2008 7:20 PM EDT

well the bulk of that weapon was first under WA, jon wanted it under encumbrance. Now that bulk has been removed so no more huge weapons. So you actually need to think how big you want your weapons in relation to other items.

Cube April 4 2008 7:38 PM EDT

Can we get the Weapon Allowance made visible? Like in Verifex 's script?

AdminJonathan April 4 2008 11:20 PM EDT

> Can we get the Weapon Allowance made visible? Like in Verifex 's script?

I'd rather come up with a better PR solution, but I haven't come up with anything yet.

lostling April 4 2008 11:39 PM EDT

simply just make challenge bonus affect people in the 6/20 solves alot of problems lol

Lord Bob April 5 2008 12:20 PM EDT

"Can anyone explain why the WA was 1/2?

Which is exactly what I was complaining about earlier. I'm all for the Encumbrance. The WA change makes no sense whatsoever, and is the sole reason why I'm so hating this change week.

AdminJonathan April 5 2008 12:25 PM EDT

> Can anyone explain why the WA was 1/2

To make PR more accurate. That is all WA affects.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] April 5 2008 12:46 PM EDT

and pr is really only used now in the challenge bonus calculations, so if you could tie encumbrance to challenge bonus then you could do away with pr and wa and really simplify the learning curve for newbies?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] April 5 2008 10:02 PM EDT

i have tried to think of something all day to solve this issue. all i can come up with is some ratio of a teams score to mpr multiplied times a ratio of their enc to nw which would give a specific number. instead of a straight score comparison as before, we compare this number to our targets number to determine challenge bonus. if our number is lower than theirs we get a bonus, if not, then no bonus. the lower our number is, the better the bonus.

in effect it would reward people who have high scores in relation to their mpr as well as ones who keep their nw lower than encumbrance. the main problem i see with this is that mages and enchanters have a better enc to nw ratio. so balance that by making the score/mpr ratio weighted more?

i don't really think this is the solution, but i wanted to post my ideas in case it inspired someone to do better! i do think it would be great to do away with weapon allowance entirely as well as pr and have something tied to encumbrance before we get an influx of new users to explain things to.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] April 5 2008 10:10 PM EDT

oops, i forgot to state that for multiple minion teams you would average the nw/enc ratios.
