Why does VA not work with Missile Weapons in Melee (in General)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] April 23 2008 8:39 PM EDT

All the Ability description and Wiki state is that it works with Physical attacks in the Melee rounds.

Ranged weapon are still physical attacks, and they suffer large penalties in Melee rounds anyway (number of attacks and Dex/PTH hit).

Why doesn't VA work on them only in the Melee rounds?

I guess you could rationalize that the VA employer has to be physically connected to the target (melee weapon). Missile weapons would not qualify.

You could always try stabbing someone in the eye with an arrow ala Legolas...

Because they are missile not melee weapons.

You try drinking someone's blood from 30 yards away.

Holy! I was ok with VA not working with ranged, but now I'm not sure I want to use it at all, ICK!

Um, it IS called -Vampiric- Aura after all...

Pheather April 23 2008 9:26 PM EDT

Well, it is in the melee rounds. So what happens if you point blank them in the head? That's how close you'll be. "Unless the swords in this game are 30 feet lon"

j'bob April 23 2008 9:30 PM EDT

Halberds are 7 or 8 feet long. Thats a long way to be drinking blood isn't it?
(i'm still not drinking blood.)

You would still have no physical link to the opponent with a ranged weapon. A melee weapon you do.

So VA should get a bonus for being used with UC yes? yes? YES!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] April 24 2008 3:18 AM EDT

No where in the wiki, nor the Ability description page differentiates the types of Physical Damage VA works with.

If you're not close enough to your opponent in the Melee rounds to use VA on them, why do you get the Dex/PTH pentalties?

What's the balance issue with letting VA work with Missile wepaons and the penalties they already have in Melee?

QBOddBird April 24 2008 3:20 AM EDT

Because the massive penalties ranged weapons/Halidon take in melee aren't enough.

Obviously if HAL could use VA, he would be overpowered.

(vote for Point Blank Shot for the Halidon! This has been a soapbox moment from OB)

I like the way you're thinking :D

Lord Bob April 24 2008 2:00 PM EDT

Balance wise I think VA is perfect as it is.

"Logically" the way it works only in melee makes perfect sense.

I wouldn't be opposed to giving UC minions a VA boost. I might even switch to a "unarmed vampire" type character if that were the case.
