Missile weapons firing every melee round? (in General)

QBRanger April 28 2008 9:26 AM EDT

I had thought, and not viewed a changelog, to the contrary, that missile weapons in the melee rounds fire every OTHER round.

However, when I fight Freed's character (not to pick on him), his SoD fires every melee round.

Bug or intentional?

Can others see if missile only using tanks fire every round in melee please?

I always thought the only drawback a DX/CTH penalty for using ranged weapons in melee... never heard of this "every other round" thing before.

It appears that Bows fire every other round, and SoDs fire every round...

I always thought both were every other round.

Interesting if it happens that way.

Yet another reason to go with a SoD over ELB/MSB.

No skill needed, can use evasion. And get to fire every round in melee.
The SoD is just getting better and better all the time.

My test opponents were:
Jochumia 2.1B - Elven Long Bow
The One UC - Sling of Death (UC is not trained on this character)

Both no melee weapons

However, I believe the balancing factor is that the SoD gets a massive dex penalty in Melee.

Slings have always fired every round. It was only Bows that attacked every other round.

Can't remember off the top of my head about XBows.

Yep, sounds like SoD is the way to go. With the choice of Iron shots or Explosive shots and no need to waste exp on a skill AND better performance in melee there's really no compelling reason for anyone to make an archery team now.
Specially when bows had a major nerf or 3 recently.

Bows have a 60% penalty in melee. Slings have an 80% penalty.

deifeln April 28 2008 11:51 AM EDT

But with splash damage, is the dex penalty that big of a deal in melee?

Ulord[NK] April 28 2008 11:58 AM EDT

If you fail to kill the evasion wall in ranged, then you are out of luck in melee. No hit = no splash. So yes it does matter.

SoD in melee is a gamble.. I can only defeat one person on my fightlist without my melee.

TheHatchetman April 28 2008 3:58 PM EDT

the 80% penalty is fierce, as I think* it's a total CTH penalty...so your full DX advantage and +100 SoD are now giving you 50% CTH... At +350, you can garuntee a shot against non-evasion minions... But that seems a bit much, even for Freed (Damn weapon Allowance/Encumbrance :P)...

*think = not know, but I'm pretty sure. Haven't actually done any testing to see how exactly it's calculated

iBananco [Blue Army] April 28 2008 4:25 PM EDT

It's the dex that's multiplied by 20%. You can still get a full dex advantage vs. low or no-dex minions.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] April 28 2008 4:28 PM EDT

The penalty only effects dex, so having a big EC and just a ranged weapon will be quite effective. If you have a full dex advantage after the penalty your cth is still exactly the same.
