Nerf : SOD and its splash pwnage. (in General)

Little Anthony May 30 2008 5:15 PM EDT

Even though enc., exists, SOD (Mr. Money) pwn so hard throughout any kind of defense., (except Evasion). Without Evasion, what are my choice?
I have heavy armor warriors (minion) and this SOD's deals 60% of "RAW" splash damage. What's the point of using heavy gears when main damage is about 400k but splash damage kills everything else about 5 times than that. Nothing could survive after 2 hits leaving a stupid wall alive. Wall - meat shield are borne to block, it does it job. However, it does not protect anything against SOD.

Make SOD splash damage 60% of initial (main) damage so that It would make sense.

Input?

Atomicboy [The Knighthood] May 30 2008 5:20 PM EDT

use a tat :) haha

Tyriel [123456789] May 30 2008 5:24 PM EDT

Unless I'm mistaken, the splash damage is 40% of the damage the initial hit does. The splash is also affected by damage reduction factors.

I could be wrong, but if not, it seems fine to me.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 30 2008 5:34 PM EDT

ToE would clear that right up...

I think that's what the SoD is for, making it hard to hide behind a big slow wall.

QBJohnnywas May 30 2008 5:44 PM EDT

I love the SoD. But it's easy to reduce it's damage; evasion, ToE, and don't forget the RBF blocks splash on the minion wearing it.

But making the splash a percentage of main damage after reductions....makes it a pretty useless weapon. Nah, it took a big enough hit from the combination of ENC, the Belegs fix and ranged damage reduction.

Use a tattoo? Seconded...

QBRanger May 30 2008 5:52 PM EDT

TOE, TOE, TOE.

Now the problems arise from using a ROE all that time of the NUB.

Tyriel [123456789] May 30 2008 5:53 PM EDT

Oh, nevermind. It is based on the pre-reduction damage, not the actual damage inflicted.

Still, ToE, EC, Ax/Exbow, Evasion, and damage reduction factors like Protection and AC can still potentially reduce the damage done, even if they might only affect 1 minion.

If this complaint is specifically because of Freed... Well, he's an aberration. Practically anything he does/uses could be considered overpowered simply because of his investment in it being greater than anybody else's in anything.

Mikel [Bring it] May 30 2008 5:54 PM EDT

Gee, you would give up evasion?
That would be dumb of you in it's current overwhelming state.
I don't have a problem with his SoD and I don't have the Evasion Skill trained.
SO that's one option for you.

Ooh but whoops, that would make your EB's useless.

Toe, GA, RoBF, Protection, PL, fight order, are all viable options.
But not a single one of those are as good as evasion.

So why are you bothering with it?

Wizard'sFirstRule May 30 2008 5:56 PM EDT

I believe EC works as well.

j'bob May 30 2008 6:32 PM EDT

LA maybe you could rally to get the RoE to have some defensive capabilities? Like the Rune of Enlightenment and Splash Damage Reductor. (giggle snort!) Sorry, couldn't resist.

QBRanger May 30 2008 6:47 PM EDT

LA,

When you were using Hatch's TOE, how was the splash damage then?

Little Anthony May 30 2008 8:08 PM EDT

When i had a 3.7mil TOE, (including huge wall), I died in 4 rounds, I was amazed that without TOE i died in 3 rounds, and with that TOE i died in 4. With that TOE, Average splash on my mage (with 113 AC) was about 1.5mil, the enchanter died in first round, my PL wall was killed in 3rd round (you are talking about 200+ AC PL minion with 4.6mil HP).

I would make it to 5 rounds with about 4.5mil TOE i expected. The negative HP after 4 rounds with TOE was still too huge to matter.

Little Anthony May 30 2008 8:33 PM EDT

Mikel: Fight Order seriously does not work with SOD.

Given 3.7mil TOE and 12mil HP total= 4 rounds.

I dropped evasion just because i do not want to hear "OMG! Overpower"
But as it is now, I guess It is the ONLY way. (unless splash damage is modified)

Atomicboy [The Knighthood] May 30 2008 8:47 PM EDT

your pl wall died so fast since your lower ac minions were leaching it of all its health and overwhelming its regen. If you increase the ac on the enchanters you will see more rounds. Works a lot better with a toe then no tat.

Little Anthony May 30 2008 8:57 PM EDT

I have used 100+ AC on enchanter, and mage, 200+ on PL wall, close to 400AC on wall. What more do you want? 4 Walls? This is with 3.7mil TOE, result are almost the same!

Tyriel [123456789] May 30 2008 8:58 PM EDT

Things tend to look overpowered, I guess, when you're dealing with:

-ToA
-Over 6m ST
-SoD of Dee's Pair [5x8030] (+239) worth $211,105,946 owned by Freda (The End of Deus)
-DM nuking whatever AS/above base Protection you might have

How bad it must be that the 2nd biggest item in all of the game is beating you...?

Sorry, but I just don't see how one can complain about a specific item (and related stratagems), when you could hardly be any weaker against it.

QBJohnnywas May 30 2008 9:01 PM EDT

When I was using the SoD I found teams with PL walls were particularly vulnerable to the splash damage, because it essentially hits the PL wall for as many times as there are minions, killing it very quickly, leaving the rest of the team to the mercy of the SoD's full attack.

SoD > PL Wall.....

Atomicboy [The Knighthood] May 30 2008 9:11 PM EDT

As I said before works a lot better with the toe :)

QBRanger May 30 2008 9:20 PM EDT

How can Conundrum beat Freed and you cannot?

TOE, TOE, TOE.

Soxjr May 30 2008 9:52 PM EDT

that and i'm sorry, but you are talking about with a 3.5 mil lvl tat.. you are top mpr.. people in your area have 4 to 7 mil tats. not 3.5 mil tat. This was unfortunately your decision when you went pure RoE. Some things you can't counter because tats are important if you want to be able to beat everyone.

QBRanger May 30 2008 10:06 PM EDT

If you look at Freed, he maximizes his NW effectively. Especially since he has a much lower MPR then those he fights.

However, his NW cannot overcome everything given the fact 7 people can beat him.

All have a much higher MPR AND a tattoo.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, you do not have a tattoo to use. Using the ROE, while quite effective in growing MPR and taking the top spot, prevented you from getting an effective tattoo.

That is the decision you made early on. To get a 5M tattoo is almost impossible. Due to rarity and cost.

Some of use stated it may be best to get a smaller tattoo, grow it and try to insta up.

So, while Freda's SoD is an incredible weapon, it really does not skew things like the ELB/seeker combo of old. Leave the skewing just to evasion right now.

QBJohnnywas May 30 2008 10:20 PM EDT

It's worth remembering that a tattoo actually adds 'invisible' MPR. So despite having the most MPR, you're actually smaller than a lot of people around you who have large tattoos.

*checks his fightlist to see the larger opponents wearing their RoEs*

lostling May 30 2008 10:46 PM EDT

*shrug* you win some you lose some... a note taht SOD gets own by GA

TheHatchetman May 31 2008 12:47 AM EDT

GS and PL don't play together nicely ~_^ without the PL he loses other teams... almost as if it's a rock/paper/scissors-type (or Charmander/Squirtle/Bulbasaur-type) thing... Weird... :P

TheHatchetman May 31 2008 12:48 AM EDT

GA and PL*

Wizard'sFirstRule May 31 2008 12:56 AM EDT

Also, replace SoD with Mageseeker facing a Mage team.
