Making a d20 System-based Game... (in Off-topic)

... And I would like your input, and ideas.
It's focusing on Aerial combat and winged mounts, and most air-based stuff. It's going to take a while to finish, since I'm only just taking notes right now, but I would like any and all ideas.
Thanks, everyone!

Your request is too general.

If you are searching for aircraft parameters:
straight line speed
rate of turn, turning radius
rate of climb, absolute flight celing
time to scramble from base and 0 to 50k ft on-station [2 min ideal]
low-level [tree top] flight ability and top speed
flight range [and in-flight refuelling]

If you want air combat factors:
radar range
infra-red/ passive radar
ECM/ ECCM
stealth factors
Gatling guns
short, medium and beyond visual range [bvr] missiles

Air-to-ground factors:
guided munitions, dumb bombs, rockets, anti-ship missiles

Anti-aircraft:
AA batteries, AA missiles, hand-held AA missiles

helicopters:
troop transport, cargo, MedEvac
anti-ship, anti-sub
anti-tank

All of this is contemporary stuff; if you want pre-historic stuff [winged mounts] then you will need to tweak these parameters as per the design. But, you cannot have pre-history and modern warbirds together, let alone WW-II and F16, F18, etc.

Maybe you should provide some more inputs about your idea, that will lead to a much detailed discussion here on the forum.

Ahem, your probably right, Chuck. It's a D&D setting.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] June 16 2008 11:41 AM EDT

Sorry, I was AFK and my brother clicked some buttons... anyway, it's a D&D setting, and I was hoping for more epic battles, that focus on aerial combat.
I'd also like to have some RTS elements (e.g controlling cities, and building castles, etc.,) but with feats and abilities.
I'd like it if everyone just contributed what they think would be cool, in a game like that.

Marlfox, even in a D & D setting, you can assign modern day aircraft parameters to specific raptors. That way it'll be easy to code the game.

For instance, a velociraptor could be somewhat like an interceptor, some other raptor could be like troop transport, maybe groups of raptors could form flying chariots/ carriages and the like.

Obviously, you'll need to tone down the speeds and flight ceiling and ranges, but the basic idea should still remain the same as modern air combat. However, i don't know if it'll work in text browser mode [like CB2], perhaps some 2D version could fit the bill.

I actually hadn't thought of including Dinosaurs... thanks, Chuck. And no, there are no modern aircraft. But perhaps airships, like Final Fantasy. In fact, I think that would be better transport...

Ahem, and it is a pen-and-paper RPG. But I'm also considering making it into a downloadable game (in C++) once I'm finished with it.

How about LAZER CATS?

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] June 16 2008 2:04 PM EDT

Er, pray forgive my ignorance... but what on earth is a LAZER CAT?

3.5 DnD? Or is it a system all of it's own?

Epic concepts? The wizards ability to fly is most versatile defensive maneuver in the game. Couple that with invisibility, and you have quite a headache. How will you find them? You can't make listen checks, and there is no tracks to see.

It'll be interesting to have wizards duke it out in the sky, making use of their dispel magic and anti magic capabilities. Featherfall is your friend, area spells are your best friend. It'll be a game of deception and trickery.

Unfortunately the winged mount can't keep up with the wizards "perfect maneuverability". Better luck with winged boots or a flying carpet for the tanks, however you'll find yourself unable to make any full attack actions. Tanks will not thrive in this game, sure you could go ranged, but you'll still find yourself at a severe disadvantage.

It's a system all on its own. But it has a D&D setting.
