What Jon's been doing wrong... (in General)

TheHatchetman July 14 2008 12:51 AM EDT

This man has the answer to it all!

lostling July 14 2008 12:57 AM EDT

"The maximum budget for this project is $1,000 and I need it done in 10 days or less."

HA!

Sacredpeanut July 14 2008 1:20 AM EDT

I love how he wants a "clone" of carnage blender and then proceeds to change almost everything that makes CB unique.

I also love how they're only willing to pay $1,000 and want it completed within 10 days.

lostling July 14 2008 1:23 AM EDT

wonder who is he =x

QBPixel Sage July 14 2008 1:31 AM EDT

Lol, I so agree with INDColtsFan18. 10 days, max $1000 to code the site? AND all it's internals? This person obviously has no sense of business, let alone sense of gameplay.

I like how he wants to let players play as much as they want. With this type of battling, the people who do the best are the people who have no life.

lostling July 14 2008 1:37 AM EDT

stratholm... i got bored of it :)

Last Gasp July 14 2008 1:49 AM EDT

We have a saying in video production (and probably any other type of project based thing)...

Cheap

Fast

Good

Pick any two (but ONLY two).

i.e. If you want it CHEAP and FAST it won't be GOOD.

(the corollaries are if you want it FAST and GOOD it won't be CHEAP and if you want it CHEAP and GOOD it won't be done FAST).

Tyriel [123456789] July 14 2008 1:50 AM EDT

He might as well have said "Make me an RPG." or "Copy all of those other cookie-cutter MMORPGs." xD

Seriously, though. Monsters, groups (parties), quests, 'traditional' leveling system? Methinks this guy should go join up with Blizzard to help make Diablo III.

"Admins should be able to change anything about the site or the game from the admin panel easily without needing to know how to code or anything. Everything should be easily done and gotten to."

Oh, wait. He doesn't know how to program. Nevermind. xD

[RX3]Cotillion July 14 2008 1:54 AM EDT

I just want to know why he didn't add the biggest missing aspect of CB2...

Pants of course.

QBPixel Sage July 14 2008 1:58 AM EDT

@Last Grasp - I heard that before in my career development class.
@[RX3]Entreri - I second that. I'm switching over if he adds pants to the game.

Just kidding, I really don't care about pants. I mean in CB.

TheHatchetman July 14 2008 2:06 AM EDT

LG, that holds true in contracting for the most part as well ^_^

8DEOTWP July 14 2008 2:24 AM EDT

what the heck?
This guy is hilarious, thanks for the link!

QBJohnnywas July 14 2008 2:33 AM EDT

There was a post here along similar lines not so long ago. I can't find it, but I'm sure Jon commented in the thread.

8DEOTWP July 14 2008 2:44 AM EDT

Jon rules,
that's why people want to clone his games
I solved it.

[LittleRed]Calynne July 14 2008 3:45 AM EDT

Now if he asked for something... you know, logical and rational... like which languages were used to create CarnageBlender and the programs needed to run it on a computer for testing phase, and how to properly transfer it to the internet once all the major/minor beginnin kinks are fixed...

Thats what I want. xD

Why? Because I want to make a small little game I can keep on my computer and just personalize and turn into my own little fantasy world, never to be seen by anyone but me. :P

I'm selfish, lemme be. >_>

[LittleRed]Calynne July 14 2008 3:50 AM EDT

On second thought, I'd probably give up before I even get anything cool done with the coding, so it'd probably all be for naught anyways. xD

Pretend I said nothing. >_>

Wizard'sFirstRule July 14 2008 4:02 AM EDT

as a newbie programmer (or a wannabe programmer - only had 1 course in varsity for it and no intention to do more), I have some ambitions regarding to the recreational games I made (a.k.a. I have some time to spend - let's program a game). Everytime I finish the first part and try the second, something just won't work. :P I don't think it is easy to make a CB clone, and I certainly won't be trying for $1000 and has to finish in 10 days. (maybe a better programmer can do it, but definitely not me)

BooDiggens July 14 2008 4:33 AM EDT

Mutilaria, I had that once, got a shot for it. Should have worn more mosquito repellent.

Xiaz on Hiatus July 14 2008 4:34 AM EDT

GAH! My master plan has been foiled! You shall pay for this!

Seriously though, a carnage blender clone? Has the world gone MAD?! There CAN NOT BE TWO CARNAGEBLENDERS!!

Anyways back to playing Carnage Blender... 2.

TheHatchetman July 14 2008 9:57 AM EDT

Call it dumb all you want, but the response that matters was:

"<Jonathan> This is changemonth gold!"

:P

miteke [Superheros] July 14 2008 11:15 AM EDT

I noticed a lot of Indian programmers or teams bid on those things. They work very cheap, but 10 days??? I couldn't program a fraction of the game in that time. And why 10 days? is that from when the post was made or when the bid was accepted. If the former, time is dwindling. If the latter, why?

forktoad July 14 2008 11:31 AM EDT

Well, all I got to add is that mimicry is a form of respect and if that guy wants to copy the game (in his own wierd way) then obviously Jon should feel flattered. (I mean no one would want to copy my college project). As for the game itself, I think the game is so good because of its dynamic nature; something which cannot be simply gained by copying the game. It's an ongoing process which will never stop. Just think about. Even if this guy manages to copy the game, CB will have already evolved to a newer level. It's not just the game, it's the people, their interactions, their suggestions, the environment (and of course the strategic loop holes) which makes it so successful. You can copy a game but where will you find a bunch of loyalists like that? Cheers to the game and the people who play it....

Lord Bob July 14 2008 1:18 PM EDT

This "clone" game sounds like crap. I'll stick with the original CB, thank you.

"The maximum budget for this project is $1,000 and I need it done in 10 days or less. Please do not go outside the budget or time range or your bid will be declined. "

This is hilarious. I've been writing a new RPG in Python that has taken me the better part of a year so far. 10 days? Ha!

bartjan July 14 2008 1:44 PM EDT

I believe this is what he wants:

BadFish July 14 2008 1:49 PM EDT

Jonathan should take the bait and code the the game in 10 days, take this guy's money, and watch as noone plays and instead donates their worldly possessions to CB.

bartjan July 14 2008 1:56 PM EDT

It's unpossible to code a game like this in 10 weeks, let alone 10 days.

BadFish July 14 2008 1:57 PM EDT

I know nothing of your ways

I just know it would be funny as hell.

AdminQBVerifex July 14 2008 5:10 PM EDT

I coded the CB clone, here is a screenshot:

[LittleRed]Calynne July 14 2008 6:19 PM EDT

Heheheh.

SimplyNic July 14 2008 6:21 PM EDT

Lol nice fex

I love lance [Lafayetts War] July 14 2008 7:47 PM EDT

I wouldn't play...this is my all-time favorite game!

QBPixel Sage July 15 2008 2:46 AM EDT

So assuming this guy wanted to name his game Mutilaria, I assume he would have the game located at mutilaria.com, correct?

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] July 15 2008 2:58 AM EDT

lol that's awesome Pixelsage!

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] July 15 2008 3:49 AM EDT

Hehe the best $1.95 that was ever spent on a domain!

Flatcap [East Milwaukee Devival] July 15 2008 4:25 AM EDT

He lives in Detroit? When I was staying there we called that game "Going to the bar" But the pets were just rats following you around and all the opponents were crackheads and hobos

Lochnivar July 15 2008 5:09 AM EDT

That is pure brilliance Pixel!

BootyGod July 15 2008 5:27 AM EDT

Omg. +300 pixelsage

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] July 15 2008 5:42 AM EDT

That was filled with win Pixel.

Obscurans July 15 2008 6:13 AM EDT

Saged as it should! Now I want to know, can you actually get a domain on $2 these days, and from what company?

Wizard'sFirstRule July 15 2008 6:21 AM EDT

good work, pixel.

Wasp July 15 2008 7:01 AM EDT

Excellent link Pixel. I liked the detail on the word owned. Looked good :D

QBPixel Sage July 15 2008 3:59 PM EDT

What? $2 domain? D= Where?!

Timberwolf July 15 2008 4:56 PM EDT

Wow Pixel Sage, that is so very wrong.
I like it. :)

QBPixel Sage July 15 2008 10:14 PM EDT

Looks like according to this page, there's 1 bid of $770. I wonder where that's gonna go =P

[RX3]Cotillion July 15 2008 10:27 PM EDT

Does anyone really believe this is real? I don't. MULTIlaria? lol... Come on now.
