The Dark Knight [NO SPOILERS] (in Off-topic)

I was lucky enough to catch a late/early showing of the movie after work. Recent debates i have both heard and participated in have been about the likelihood of Heath Ledgers quality of performance being exaggerated to give him an oscar.
After watching the movie i now firmly believe that his performance was hyped so much because it was simply breathtaking. I am intrigued if i just wanted to be blown away, but i doubt it. Has anyone else seen it yet? What did you all think?

Haven't seen it yet. Want to. Very badly. Chris Nolan is one of my favourite directors.

But please: NO SPOILERS!!!!!! Otherwise I won't be able to read this thread again!!!

My friends went to see it last night, didn't ask me cuz they thought i had to work at 3 AM (they went to the midnight show, >.< ). But i hear Christian Bale might as well have been an extra because Heath was that good in the movie. I cannot wait to see this movieeee!!!!

I was very skeptical on Nolan's casting of Ledger when it was first announced. Even going into the movie I wasn't sure if he would make it work. After seeing it this morning, my doubts were quickly erased. Heath Ledger was a great Joker.

Lucky bratz...me poor Belgian boy has to wait like another month...

It was mindblowing. Pity he's dead, because I wish I could see him in another Batman movie.

I saw the midnight showing. Totally worth it.

Just saw it in IMAX this morning, and it was just unbelievable. Ledger as the Joker was absolutely psychotic, in a good way! I just hope that the next person to fill the Joker's shoes can come even close to his performance.

By far the best movie I've seen this summer, and probably the best comic book movie to date.

I really liked the movie. I think Heath made an excellent Joker. But I have a few problems with the way the character was portrayed. Joker is insane, we all know that, but there's supposed to be an element of twisted comedy to his insanity, which this movie kinda throws out. There's maybe 1 really good twisted gag from the Joker early on, but other than that a few other times, the comedy element just doesn't seem to stand out enough. This, to me, is what makes Joker funny. Sure, he's insane and he slaughters people, but the thing that separates him from the other mass murderers is that he has a twisted sense of humor.

This is all of course subjective for me. And I'm sure most people wouldn't agree with my dissatisfaction with the way the character was portrayed.

Christian Bale might as well not have been part of the movie. I ended up more interested in the Joker and Harvey Dent than Batman. Oh well. I thought overall it was a good movie.

I thought this was an amazing movie...and there was DEFINITELY a lot of twisted humor from the Joker. Perhaps you simply missed it, or it wasn't outright enough for you? *shrug*

It was acted out magnificently. Christian Bale did a good job as Batman, but the spotlight was clearly all Heath Ledger's. Outstanding performance, he might as well have _been_ the Joker.

Hey you know the best line of the movie (in my opinion) Is... You know how I got these scars? No, But I know how you got these! Everyone stood up and cheered. Good thing i sit in the VERY back :P

Ernest-Scribbler July 23 2008 3:17 AM EDT

No Spoilers!!!!!!!!!

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] July 23 2008 3:18 AM EDT

There's no way in the world we saw the same movie then. Because the movie I saw, well, Christian Bale is as good of an actor as Raveshaw is sexy. And both are extremely untrue.

Colonel Allen July 23 2008 3:18 AM EDT

Yes sir!

AdminJonathan July 23 2008 3:25 AM EDT

Saw it opening day. There were a *lot* of people wearing Dark Knight shirts. One guy had a batman logo tattooed on his calf. Crazy.

These two recent reboot films of the Batman series are great. I saw The Dark Knight today and was amazed how human the characters were. Even though the Joker was completely 'chaotic,' some how he made perfect sense. Nice contrast between the two lead roles, I agree, in the end you the spotlight is on the Joker, Ledger really shined in the role.

The best thing about this movie, is the way the story is given time to unfold - unlike other blockbusters, every moment of the 153 minutes is well spent, I mean if the opening scene doesn't get you... Then the several other climatic moments should.

I really enjoyed it because the Joker was so relentless, which suited his personality perfectly. Batman was always playing catch up and often couldn't keep up with the illogical nature of the Joker.

I hate to say it, but this movie really was a rollercoaster ride. :)

Flamey July 23 2008 8:29 AM EDT

It was awesome. I think it was fantastic that aside from having to put a crazy voice on he also had to do it on an accent. :o Both which were brilliant.

NooneKnows July 27 2008 2:22 PM EDT

oh my god, that movie was incredible. I saw it twice opening day, including the midnight show.

the joker's part was extremely well written, and incredibly well played. I wasn't expecting much from ledger, but he truly delivers. so psychotically hilarious!

went and saw it again yesterday just for his performance :)

...why so serious?
