I want to sell my Magic the Gathering cards:advice (in Off-topic)

Note: this is NOT a FS thread, this thread is merely to get advice!
I have a collection of about 1500-2000 Magic the Gathering cards which I've collected some 10 years ago.
The problem however is that I have absolutely no idea what all those cards are worth. I have a boat load of normal cards but also lots of uncommon and rare ones. I know some of them were worth about 10-25 Florins before the Euro was a Dutch currency.
Does anyone know a website with current values of these cards which would be accessible without having to pay for?

Yeah, that's generally the best way. I think getting the card magazine (Duelist/Top Deck/Whatever they call it these days. I actually can't recall off the top of my head) and finding the prices in there is slightly more reliable. When I worked in a card store, we actually used it as a reference for simplicity.
Most of the non-rare cards wont be worth much. Having said that, there are some big ones that never go out of style. Llanowar elves, for example - They should be worth a Bit more. Our store Always ran out of them, so we paid more.

Thanks already for giving those tips and google results :p
The main thing indeed is to find my rare and uncommon cards to get an estimate value on what to ask / expect to sell it for.
Also by browsing through those lists I might get to some common cards like the Llanowar Elves, which I think I have some of, to get some more buck ;)

Most stores run off of Scrye. As far as actual worth to a fellow gamer, you might try trollandtoad.com. They usually have decent prices that other people tend to follow. As far as selling them, I would dig through and get the good stuff, and sell those as singles, and sell the rest of the uncommons and commons in bulk for 10-20 bucks. If you played 10 years ago you could have some good rares....
Card collecting, looking back it was a major waste of pocket money. :)
I wonder if Pokemon cards have any value these days...
10 years ago, he's got some wicked commons and uncommons... :P
sink hole, ancestral recall, black lotus/moxes (well, a mint condition black lotus can fund your education. that's how much its worth), force of wills, I suspect that collection would easily worth a grand, but of course, it might not worth anything if there isn't the "good" cards.

took a quick glance at the first website and looked at the 5th edition and Tempest cards.
I know I have some of the more expensive (15 - 17 dollar) cards so I'll be very interested to make a list and compare prices.
Thanks in advance!
p.s. No I don't have the old moxes or lotuses ;(

Scrye! That's the one!
Something to remember; The price listed in (most of) those places is the 'buy' price. Selling is usually less, something like 50-75%. You get more if you're lucky.
Sell me any true Dual lands Shade ^_~ I'm sure you have to have some of those.... or maybe a coalition victory ^_^

Shade, let me know which sites you find to be the most reliable. I have about twice as many cards as you to get rid of. They're literally just taking up space now since I stopped playing.

I'll do that of course :)

I recently sold my collection of about 1200 cards and was extremely disappointed in how much i got for them (less than 300 bucks, and I had 5 chrome moxes!) but then again, I didn't have many of the "older" cards. If you have any of the Nine: Time Walk, Ancestral Recall, the Moxes, Black Lotus... you could make some SERIOUS cash. The older cards are the only ones with any real value now.

Well, if I make about 300 euro's I'd be happy already I think.
But I think that's quite doable but I'll just see how it goes..

I'd buy some
Shade,
If you find some good leads, please let me know.
I'm in the same situation, going back all the way to unlimited. I DO have several moxes and a lotus, and want to be sure I get the best asking price I can.
Starcitygames.com is what most players use currently. Please note that there prices are high though.

It's hard to sell individual cards for a pretty sum, unless they're good and are in good condition. Lots seem to sell pretty well, though, In fact, my brother bought a few common lots off eBay when we felt like getting back into M:TG a little bit, but didn't want it to be too pricey.
