5 Things about CB (in General)

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] September 8 2008 9:08 PM EDT

Well. It's become evident that no one is happy with the way things work around here. So I was just curious... Can everyone agree on at least 5 things that work perfectly in this game? In other words, 5 things that don't need any changing/tweaking of any sort...

I am aware that this seems like just another rant thread, but I am being completely serious. List your 5 things here, and see if everyone else agrees...

1.) Auctions are good the way they are now.
2.) Forums are great fun and work fine.
3.) The blacksmith is always spot on! Even when you think he's not.
4.) Clans are fine the way they are.
5.) As for game mechanics... ummm..... hmmm. Toughie. Let's see.... uhhh, the Steel Familiar seems to be good the way it is?

three4thsforsaken September 8 2008 9:23 PM EDT

I hate the word "perfect" nothing is perfect. But these things I really like.

1. I love the balance of AMF and DDs. It works very well with the limited boostability of DDs.

2.DM is amazingly balanced. GA and AS are so powerful right now, but no one is screaming "overpowered!" because of DM. Perfect Rock paper scissors combo.

3. Score. The new score system is very nice, it allows for a good challenge bonus as one grows and it dwindles nicely in the 6 BA range. Of course this depends on how good your team is at challenging up, but it is better.

4.FS/WTB forums. Fast effective cheap. Something I always liked about CB is it's marketplace, economics is fun!

5. Hal. Far from perfect, but the rescale as made it much better. It's easier to get out of ranged rounds, and a Hal in melee is a fish out of water.

I mean, it's kinda unfair to say, what doesn't need tweaking. The whole damage system has been reworked, added 30 rounds! Lotso of thigns have isies

QBsutekh137 September 8 2008 10:48 PM EDT

I am happy with the way things are overall, so I don't fall into the OP's premise (first sentence). So, I will not be giving five things. I generally won't give creedence to ANY sentiment that uses superlatives like "no one", "everyone", "all the time", or "never". Such statements are rarely true.

Tyriel [123456789] September 8 2008 11:01 PM EDT

No one can doubt that everybody knows that Sut is never wrong all the time.

:)?

QBsutekh137 September 8 2008 11:02 PM EDT

Exactly! *smile*

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] September 8 2008 11:05 PM EDT

*Sigh*

Sut (and all others who have mentioned it) are right. I was irritated when I made the post, so my wording is a bit sweeping.

Of course nothing can be perfect, and of course most things can use a bit of tweaking. I was just trying to make a point. People complain so much that it makes me wonder if we can agree on any main components of the game...

>>1) People who still post with consistency, harmony, and logic

So after cutting out those who aren't all three of those, that leaves... you. Haha.

Hakai, I know how you feel. CB seems to have been going downhill. But there's still enough of us around where you don't need to worry! :)

QBOddBird September 8 2008 11:22 PM EDT

Team Awesome pwns Team Killface

FYI

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] September 8 2008 11:27 PM EDT

You misunderstand, Borgin. It's not that I think the game has gone downhill, or even that I fear everyone will leave.

I just noticed a lot of complaints recently (much more than usual, it seems...but that could just be me) and it was dispiriting. I was just trying to turn the attention to the good things of CB...in a round about way.

But in the process of writing the post, it seems I let my frustration dictate the mood of the post...

Cube September 8 2008 11:30 PM EDT

Almost everything is awesome.

Goodfish September 8 2008 11:35 PM EDT

Fair enough, Hakai. But I personally feel CB2 is going downhill. ;)

Not that I mind; it still stands head and shoulders above any other 'net game I've played. Hell, it's the community I enjoy about the game. The game is just a distraction when chat is slow.

I've played CB since 03/03/03 (sexy date, huh?) and one of the first threads I read was doom, gloom and despondency. Jon is bad, Jon is evil, this game won't last and it's all unbalanced.

I'm looking forward to many more years of the same :D

QBsutekh137 September 9 2008 2:26 PM EDT

333, eh, GB? So you're just half evil?

N0seBLeeD September 9 2008 2:44 PM EDT

How can you guys say Jonathan is one of your favourite things, but at the same time you complain about everything he releases, changes, or hasn't changed? Isn't that contradictory?

Don't get me wrong, every change I've seen him make has been positive, and I'd put him on my 5 things list, but some of you complain all the time and still have the "suck up" attitude to put him on your list.

Not that all of you who said Jonathan are like that. Just most.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 9 2008 6:38 PM EDT

1-The game's layout. Simple, effective.

2-Solid forums, free of multicolor text and signature clutter. Easy to read and soft on the eyes.

3-The game is free. Or almost. And you can buy supportership with game money. Also, non-supporters are not too limited in what they can do around here.

4-Changes are frequent and bugs get, most of the time, fixed fast and well. Also, changes are well documented.

5-Rules are enforced justly, are intelligent and not over-restrictive. They actually make CB a safe haven on the internet, almost free from the stupidity present all over the web. Admins are friendly, reachable and actually feel like they are part of us,the community.

I could go on. Five things are not enough at all.

CB rocks, now, just as much as it did when I joined, two and a half years ago.

th00p September 9 2008 10:37 PM EDT

1) The community (not chat, I prefer the old one)

2) Jon's involvement (although UC could use a little something...)

3) BA. Works perfectly (BA cost is another thing, though)

4) Controlled environment (see: PG, no cheaters, etc.)

5) OB's booty! I can't believe no one has mentioned this so far!

Josh [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 10 2008 12:44 PM EDT

1) The amount of people complaining about change is at a perfect level.

2) The amount of people complaining about USD/CB exchange is at a perfect level.

3) The amount of people complaining about NCB/NUB is at a perfect level.

4) The amount of Sutekhs are at a perfect level.

5) The amount of Jons are at a perfect level.

QBsutekh137 September 10 2008 1:44 PM EDT

Nosebleed, I think you and I have very different definitions of "complain".

You do realize that it is possible to respect, admire, and find great value in another human being while still, at times, being critical of their actions or policies, correct?

In asking your question, you have answered it. If not, then you have simply created a false dichotomy.

Goodfish September 10 2008 4:02 PM EDT

Sut FTW!

I've always been boggled by Jon's omnipotence and even hand. That isn't to say I don't like some of the changes, but I know that ultimately they're better for CB so I try not to complain too much about anything that goes on during Changemonths.

QBsutekh137 September 10 2008 6:39 PM EDT

Josh, just saw your number 4...you mean since I changed my name, Sutekhs are at a good number now (zero)?

Should I take the hint? *smile*

Josh [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 10 2008 8:59 PM EDT

Good point. But I just felt silly calling you anything other than Sutekh since I don't know you as FriskyDingo.

So know, I meant 1.

Josh [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 10 2008 8:59 PM EDT

NO* go me. I should proofread.

QBsutekh137 September 10 2008 11:21 PM EDT

Good call, and it's time I got back to basics...

...but I'm keeping the picture. *smile*
