Toonami Cancelled... (in Off-topic)

Soul Eater September 21 2008 3:15 AM EDT

I just saw on tv tonight that Toonami is no longer gonna be airing so I'm wondering if they are trying to get rid of anime and if Cartoon Network does stop airing Anime I'm going to stop watching Cartoon Network all together as it's one of the only reason I watch it.

♥ toonami. I liked the old toonami with the short host. That was awesome. Gundam wing, dragonball, etc. Toonami was totally awesome.

RIP Toonami... *tear*

Soul Eater September 21 2008 3:46 AM EDT

I missed the old Toonami where they actually had only anime, not the recent incarnation that had american cartoons mixed in. But still they better not be phasing out anime all together or else!!!!

Goodfish September 21 2008 3:50 AM EDT

Almost all anime I've ever seen on TV has sucked. Seriously. Bleach? Naruto? The one with the guy who flips out and hits things with a big sword? Come on.

Back when they actually had GOOD anime (Big O, original Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, et cetera), I watched it all the time. But the last five years or so it's just gone horribly downhill. Now I use Netflix to get all the "good" anime I want to see- Neon Evangelion, Chobits (my new favorite!), Planetes, Blood +... the list goes on.

♥♥♥ original dragonball. Yeah, I haven't watched toonami in years. I remember the gundam series totally psyched me out. It was awesome. I believe the one I liked most (but was never on... grr...) was mobile suit gundam.

Yeah, all those funny numbers are actually hearts. like this: ♥

or not...

three4thsforsaken September 21 2008 4:22 AM EDT

there was FLCL. My first love.

Does Adult swim count?

Soul Eater September 21 2008 5:01 AM EDT

I heard they are also thinking about taking adult swim off the air also. I have a feeling Cartoon Network is trying to get rid of anime all together.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw September 21 2008 7:11 AM EDT

I'd think that Cartoon Network gets about half their viewers from adult swim, with family guy and all...

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] September 21 2008 10:37 AM EDT

Maybe they'll bring back the old Nicktoons: Angry Beavers, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Salute your Shorts, Are you Afraid of the Dark, etc.

three4thsforsaken September 21 2008 1:05 PM EDT

I seriously doubt that they would cut out all anime. If they have any idea what most of their viewers watch, or have any intention of making big money they wouldn't. I mean c'mon, they've invested a ton into IGPX, they know the value of anime.

"I heard they are also thinking about taking adult swim off the air also. I have a feeling Cartoon Network is trying to get rid of anime all together."

1) Where in the bloggosphere are you hearing this mess? AS won't drown.

2) Reject that "feeling" now and realize they can only make so much commercially off Ben 10. A show about as lame as most anime.

Goodfish September 21 2008 2:23 PM EDT

Fooly Cooly was awesome, but I didn't see it on TV first. I actually bought the DVD's and caught it on CN a few years later.

I also loved the old Toonami. Cowboy Beebop, Gundam, DBZ, etc etc... classic...

American Naruto is APPALLING, simply GROSS. The original Japanese version is much more enjoyable, the American version is the same story, but completely dumbed down and with horrible horrible voice actors...

http://www.narutohq.com/voiceactors.php

The voice acting for the Japanese version is an all-star cast, while the American version... well... isn't. LOL

Anyways that's really sad that Toonami is no more :(

I've upgraded to manga these days, everyone always said books are always better than their movies, and it's no different here. Careful, once you start reading, you can't stop!

If you stay up late they Blood +.
Or maybe I'm thinking of Adult Swim.

Soul Eater September 27 2008 10:04 PM EDT

Your thinking of Adult Swim and Blood + is no longer on the air as far as I know because I watched it back when it was aired.

QBsutekh137 September 27 2008 10:43 PM EDT

Cowboy Bebop!

Frisky Dingo!

Goodfish September 28 2008 12:46 AM EDT

I hate Frisky Dingo, it's so stupid.

Cowboy Bebop was awesome.

Blood + is a great anime if you like gore; I've only watched the first ~10 episodes but so far it's epic.

A Lesser AR of 15 [Red Permanent Assurance] September 28 2008 2:00 AM EDT

How dare you belittle the epictude that is Frisky Dingo! Have you no humor and scorn Family Guy as well?

Goodfish September 28 2008 5:04 AM EDT

Family Guy can be funny but those kinds of cartoons are really lost on me. Frisky Dingo has never, ever, not-even-once-in-my-life made me laugh. It just creeps me out.

BadFish September 28 2008 5:21 AM EDT

I really like the comedic timing in Frisky Dingo, me and that show get along pretty well.

Cube September 28 2008 6:25 AM EDT

Family Guy has the same problem that the new Simpson's episodes do.
Now South Park on the other hand =)

Oh and FLCL was awesome; I should watch that again.

Goodfish September 29 2008 10:14 AM EDT

Jon, you tend to like shows like that. Frisky Dingo isn't nearly the worst, though, I'll admit. I find Squidbillies to be the most abhorrent show on television, to be honest. I've never found it funny, just creepy as hell.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw September 29 2008 6:16 PM EDT

When a show I don't like comes on, I have two solutions.
1) Change the channel to history, discovery, military, science, or any of those awesome networks because at least one usually has something good on.
2) If option 1 does not work, I press the power button.
