CB newsletter (in General)

AdminJonathan October 27 2008 5:27 PM EDT

What would you like to see in a CB email newsletter? I started thinking about this primarily from a retention point of view (if you haven't logged in for a while, you get a newsletter to remind you what you're missing -- opt-out-able, of course), but maybe it could be useful for active players, too.

I'm thinking of including

- your rank [by score] overall and in your realm
- characters who beat you in the past 24h, how often, and what clan they fight for
- most-active threads started in the past week or month

What would you like to see? Or is everything so conveniently available in CB that there's no need for something like this? :)

AdminQBVerifex October 27 2008 5:28 PM EDT

Hell yeah, I would love this. But then again, maybe admin votes don't count. ;)

Stephen Young October 27 2008 5:28 PM EDT

An obvious inclusion would be most recent Change Month changes to the game.

Lord Bob October 27 2008 5:30 PM EDT

I think it's a good idea, though I admit I'd be among the first to opt-out of it. That has everything to do with my bias against e-mail, and nothing to do with my dedication to the game, however.

QBJohnnywas October 27 2008 5:30 PM EDT

Dunno about anybody else but I'm here far more than I check my emails!

A good use for this for active players might be changemonths however. Changes (plus fix betters) without all the comments that we normally fill the posts up with would be nice in one place.

BadFish October 27 2008 5:31 PM EDT

I would love to have my 24h battle summary in my inbox. How often would this get sent?

AdminJonathan October 27 2008 5:33 PM EDT

Yes, those would be automatically part of the forum threads section.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 27 2008 5:50 PM EDT

Right idea wrong location...
I think rss feeds and google apps (or fb or ms) would do more and be less likely to end up ignored. I know the forums are already rss capable, but fight logs and char and clan standings each day would be spiffy

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] October 27 2008 5:51 PM EDT

I haven't thought much about what to include, but I would enjoy a CB news letter.

Wasp October 27 2008 5:54 PM EDT

A great idea!! Let people see what they are missing if they aren't playing. Will also remind players who don't check the game to often to sort of catch up with the game. I think it's good

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] October 27 2008 6:20 PM EDT

I vote yes, nice thinking john. Maybe have a link in community where you could view it also, and then also send it in e-mails. Do not get carried away though. Maybe a new one every 2 weeks or so. I do not really want my e-mail getting spammed by carnage blender.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 27 2008 6:21 PM EDT

i like the idea, i would encourage a looking forward section as well, with some vague plans, nothing too specific that we would hound ya over.

what about an admin and chat ops listing, i do think we need an admin listing somewhere if we don't have one.

upcoming tournament events as well?

IndependenZ October 27 2008 6:24 PM EDT

Sounds interesting! I like it, especially for retention.

Just the other day I got exactly such an email from another webgame I used to play. I tend to discard those pretty easily, but they promised me a free item which I knew was pretty useless, but could come in handy. And that was the spark for me. I got back to the game, got the item... and started playing again :)

For retention, maybe offering a free familiar or something else might be nice for such an email as well. (just for people who have been away for a few months or so)

th00p October 27 2008 7:04 PM EDT

I log on here enough that anything I know I'd like to find out here, not via email, but obviously that's just my 2 cents.

AdminG Beee October 27 2008 7:57 PM EDT

Lamu's economy report, or variation thereof.

Ancient Anubis October 27 2008 8:38 PM EDT

i have to say i would like to c an introduction of a ranking system not sure how we could do this but it would be nice to c where we are placed and give us something else to aaim for, this could be included in this news letter of yours as well

Xiaz on Hiatus October 27 2008 8:58 PM EDT

- more admin/cb competitions, include an update/notification in the newsletter
- a top 10 section which rotates with each issue, possibly score (boring), growth rate (MPR/BA or MPR/time), character stat or item
- blackmarket update, that thing needs some light shined upon it
- quote of the newsletter, if the newsletter is automated forget this one

Vaynard [Fees Dirt Cheap] October 28 2008 12:19 AM EDT

Sounds like an interesting idea, I know I'd check it out.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] October 28 2008 7:30 AM EDT

I agree with LB and JohnnyWas. I don't even check my email once a day. In my case, receiving an update like that would probably be, for the most part, redundant, simply because I'll have been here first. No offense, but I would probably opt out, and I therefore don't really have any contribution for what to include.

Negator October 28 2008 9:23 AM EDT

Like many others, I would probably opt out, but I think retention-wise, it's a good idea.

I would include anything that is timing-sensitive: tournaments, contests, polls, maybe hot auctions.

@novice: I don't have either Facebook or MySpace, and neither I nor any of my dozen or so IT-industry friends use RSS feeds, though I am not sure how representative I or my friends are of the player base.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 28 2008 9:36 AM EDT

I actually don't use RSS much outside of some google apps to watch CB forums... but it seemed to make more sense to me than trying to shoehorn this type of information in a newsletter format.
