Yeah, another suggestion thread. (in General)

So I was just thinking since we have these saved training sets and all, maybe we can have an auto trainer. There isn't any point in stacking up exp unless you plan to do something with it in the future, so we could have a toggleable auto trainer somewhere on the train page, so every time we click "fight," all our exp is trained with the training set of our choice. It's similar to the old "heal then fight" thing, how that is now gone and it's just "fight" and now we don't have the option of fighting without healing. But of course, we would still have the option of auto training, hence the toggle. I would personally love to see this implemented. It would save so much time!

I'm quite certain this would fall into the 'lazy' pile of suggestions. Wouldn't really save very much time at all. I mean, click train, load train set, click apply, 3 clicks ~ 5 seconds.

BootyGod November 30 2008 8:36 AM EST

Mhm. Besides, tattoos are levelled by actually hitting the train button, and I think that trying to make everything automated would be a bit difficult and not really serve any purpose.

Eh. I'm with Encore. Just a lazy change.

letting tattoos update whenever you hit fight would be a good thing :)

well..would help with my slow connection....sometimes takes 30-40secs to load pages on CB for me

i am no programmer, but it would seem to me that any action that is now being initiated by the user after many fights that if made auto for each fight would only affect server response in a negative way.

I don't like the idea. It takes out tons of interactivity. And it'll prevent new players from dealing with the training screen more often. The more often they see the training screen, the more they are forced to think about their strat.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw November 30 2008 3:33 PM EST

Yeah, I said toggle for a reason. You don't have to take advantage of being able to train whenever you fight and updating your tattoos and all that good stuff.

Soxjr November 30 2008 3:36 PM EST

I would think this would cause server lag. If every fight the system had to auto train on your train set that is a lot of work for the server to keep up with and then do it every fight for every person that has it toggled... That would lag the server very badly I would think.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw November 30 2008 3:37 PM EST

Oh and this isn't a "lazy" change. It simply makes it much easier to keep fighting without having to worry about your untrained exp be a burden on your character. In my opinion, this is a lot like the whole "heal then fight" thing we used to have.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw November 30 2008 3:50 PM EST

Oh and I highly doubt it would lag the server in the slightest. It's not like Jon would set up a macro so the server sends you all this data from the train page and then send you all the information from your next fight. It won't lag the network in the slightest. If you think it might lag the server because it has to make all these extra calculations, then think about this: If the server can handle all the calculations needed to generate a battle for you in no time at all, I'm sure it can handle some simple division every time you click "fight."

Honestly, I see absolutely no reason not to implement this.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 30 2008 4:03 PM EST

again, i am no programmer, but all of the current battle calculations are reading data from a database and using those figures to generate a battle. all that is being written though is battle results summaries.

with what you are suggesting it would require a read from the database for current stats, training calculations and then writing back new data to the database before it even starts what it currently does. with that being said, it would likely also create more opportunities for data errors with all of the database writes as opposed to the current system with minimal updates of database tables.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw November 30 2008 8:28 PM EST

If everybody is so concerned about lag, which won't even be caused by this, why not make it a supporter feature? That would be yet another reason to become a supporter, and lessen the lag THAT WON'T EVEN EXIST.
