Unarmed Combat Effects (in General)

BootyGod December 2 2008 11:39 AM EST

In an effort to make UC a more effective tool for use in CB, and spawned from a bad joke in CB chat, I propose the introduction of weapons into the world of Unarmed Combat.

Now, these wouldn't be weapons in the typical sense of weapons. They'd be effect weapons. Weapons upgraded similar to armor that grant effects and boost UC.

Now some examples to better illustrate this idea:

Kama [1x1] +0. While equipped, the minion ignores 30% of the opponents AC.

Only the plus would be upgradeable and would effect the UC . Would operate on a similar curve to AGs (this could be changed for balance purposes, of course).

Other examples would be things like:

Monk's Spade [1x1] +0. When equipped, the minion has all damage dealt to him in melee reduced by 10% (before or after other damage reduction, number changed to help balance)

Kwan-Dao [1x1] +0. When equipped, the minion has all physical damage dealt increased by 10%.

Bo-staff [1x1] +0. The equipped minion is able to attack with UC in the last round of ranged (basically, an HoC for UC.)

These are just ideas and of course open to criticism and furthering.

Let me know what you think.

I WANNA NINJA STARS

This idea is

A++++++++++++++++++

IndependenZ December 2 2008 11:51 AM EST

Nunchuks? Sounds like fun ;)

lostling December 2 2008 12:08 PM EST

there IS a reason its call unarmed combat...

QBOddBird December 2 2008 12:17 PM EST

It kinda depends on how you look at it, lostling.

If you think of UC as CB's equivalent of the monk class, then it makes perfect sense.

And if you don't think of it like that, weapons like brass knuckles could simply be implemented as fist armor, much like HGs.

Thanatos December 2 2008 12:23 PM EST

I can not stand it.
Just shoot me.

For once I have to agree with the lost one. :(P

[RX3]Cotillion December 2 2008 12:26 PM EST

Rename UC. Martial Arts.

Thanatos December 2 2008 12:39 PM EST

I think you are on to something there, very close.

MA as a new tank, maybe more magical and the weapons.

UC more just more resistance to magic.

Ariac December 2 2008 1:14 PM EST

If we do we should have the Shao-Lin Yo-Yo... Also the spade you're talking about is called a Shao-Lin Spade. I second the calling UC martial arts and getting these new items. Nunchucks, Shao-Lin Yo-Yo, perhaps we could have a UC equivalent of tattoos called stances or forms including horse stance to increase AC, Tai Chi could raise avoidability... Stuff like that would be pretty sweet.

King December 2 2008 1:31 PM EST

unarmed combat weapons would probably be closer to

waghnakh -> kama effect
shobo -> ax bow like effect
battle-glove.....

...whatever would be directly on the fist, sticks and sickles aren't exactly using your fists.

QBOddBird December 2 2008 1:35 PM EST

BLOWGUNS

BootyGod December 2 2008 2:01 PM EST

Now, let's try to open our minds here. Don't be so set in the old ways of thinking and playing that you refuse to move forward.

UC is a soft option nowadays. It just is. And how did you plan on solving this? Directly increasing the effect? That's boring and probably ineffective. Giving it an inherent effect? That's also boring and probably equally ineffective.

This, from my thinking, was the best way to augment UC, add choice to a flavorful strategy, and deepen the game.

It's not that I'm against other changes. But I am against people who just "don't like it". Because right now it seems to me that a few people are saying UC is fine the way it is (horrible) because it's called UC so can't be changed.

three4thsforsaken December 2 2008 2:07 PM EST

haven't you heard? UC is dead in 4.0? It makes me sad too :(

But in other news, reamping the UCs defensive aspects (like weak endurance dependent on UC and STR levels) would bring back much of it's appeal.

The Old Gods December 2 2008 3:57 PM EST

If u gave UC its own set of tattoos and called them stances wouldnt u have to give other specs their own special items to balance it?

Steve G December 2 2008 4:39 PM EST

most UC users have a Gi which means no tattoos available

Brakke Bres [Ow man] December 2 2008 4:42 PM EST

I always wanted brass knuckles as weapons for UC, or even Cat Claws

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] December 2 2008 6:40 PM EST

"The claws were used by the ninja as both assassination weapons and tools for scaling barriers, and you can also get in serious trouble."

ROFL.

King December 2 2008 6:55 PM EST

as i said before the waghnakh =p

Rawr December 2 2008 8:09 PM EST

In WoW, using fist weapons is considered unarmed combat. So perhaps something along the lines of a brass knuckle or claw :)

TheHatchetman December 2 2008 8:35 PM EST

If only we had some sort of glove that could raise the ST of a UC user... Or even something a UC wearer could put on their hands to raise their UC... that would be sweet! ^_^

Not entirely against the idea, but i feel it is very much along the lines of requesting staves for mages :P Whether or not UC needs a buff, I do not know... But in the event it does, I'm sure there's another way to do it ^_^

BootyGod December 2 2008 8:36 PM EST

Name it.

Wizard'sFirstRule December 2 2008 10:07 PM EST

add a new slot for battle gloves. works on all melee weapon, but better on UC?

Steve G December 3 2008 1:02 AM EST

what you guys need to realize is you cant just come up with items that already have a bonus item for that slot, like gloves (HGs) or tattoo/armor (gi)

maybe if you could make the AoM get a +1 per enchantment to UC on top of the ST bonus then that would make UC a much more viable strat at least thru early-mid games....

Brakke Bres [Ow man] December 3 2008 8:36 AM EST

Ninjas wear gloves, but on top of the gloves they wear those cat claws.

So not really strange, you can give those brass knuckles or claws for every "x" (fixed PTH modifier at 0 or 10 or something maybe) you put in, you get 0.01 UC effect. So every 100X you get 1 UC effect added.

Not bad. And since X doesn't count towards WA it can easily be huge.

BootyGod December 3 2008 8:40 AM EST

No. If you want to spend money on a weapon, make a tank. That was the exact idea I was trying to avoid as it made no sense. Upping a weapon to increase damage in such a way is a tank. Not a UC minion.

Talk about giving mage's staves. The claws idea is the -exact- same thing.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] December 3 2008 8:58 AM EST

ok then a fixed a X and pth (like the AoI) and give it a +5 effect to UC or similar

BootyGod December 3 2008 9:13 AM EST

Oh yes. That'll make UC viable. A bit of extra PTH and damage. Because UC is -just- under useable, right? ;P

Unappreciated Misnomer December 3 2008 7:00 PM EST

its called UNarmed combat for a reason, but i agree that some different aura items. UC aura tattoo? or boots that would also benefit tanks?

and as UC goes i feel that its a monk class, the balance of peace, the pushing and pulling of auras would be an interesting offset to fights.

three4thsforsaken December 4 2008 3:07 AM EST

again, I think pushing UC to a more damaging direction isn't really the point

I would prefer if UC got a buff defensively, so it'll be able to take the role it used to before better.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 4 2008 3:15 AM EST

Unarmed Combat is really a misnomer. What's unarmed? When does swinging a fist not count as a weapon?

Do Knuckle Dusters, Punch Daggers, Steel Toe Capped Boots alter the way in which an 'unarmed' combatant fights? Are they weapons?

Is the Unarmed Combatant now using 'armed' combat?

Headbutting someone is unarmed combat right? How about headbutting someone when you're wearing a Plate Helmet?

Ariac December 4 2008 3:47 AM EST

Unarmed is any combat you do without arms.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] December 4 2008 10:24 AM EST

So like capoeira and breakdance-fighting?

Cube December 4 2008 10:46 AM EST

"I would prefer if UC got a buff defensively, so it'll be able to take the role it used to before better."

Agreed.
