It used to be like this for years. No need to be pedantic. It doesn't make that much of a difference. Otherwise you just see messages at the bottom that happen to be from 3 hours ago.

QBOddBird December 3 2008 11:45 PM EST

I really like knowing when a player enters Chat. I've seen some people said "hi" to lately that ordinarily would go unnoticed, and it's nice to say hi to newbies that would usually just watch Chat and leave.

Steve G December 3 2008 11:46 PM EST

enabling it is one thing, forcing it upon everyone is another tho

QBOddBird December 3 2008 11:48 PM EST

mm. Cry me a river.

Steve G December 3 2008 11:49 PM EST

i hardly see how it was your call to do this either

QBOddBird December 3 2008 11:55 PM EST

You should check out how much I care.

I care this much.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 3 2008 11:56 PM EST

Unexpected consequence, no one purposely forced it on anyone.
It's as simple as NS or Jon adding the all caps version of the room to the exception list.

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] December 3 2008 11:57 PM EST

I like it.

* WolfEyes runs screaming into a door.

Yeah, I tend to have that effect on people. =P

But no, in all seriousness, I personally like knowing when people come in. That way I can pounce on them as soon as they walk through that door. >:-)

OB1, I love you. You're my hero.

Steve G December 4 2008 10:36 AM EST

i never said that everyone wasnt entitled to their own opinion, and OB thanks for showing that your maturity level is about the same as a 2nd grader, no wonder rave likes you.

i just said that its silly that those who like, and dont like are forced to have it just the same when some no name who wants to abuse his ops in chat decides he prefers CAPS forces those who dont like it to have to deal with it to, your not jon so dont pretend you are

Cube December 4 2008 10:45 AM EST

Steve, if it was forced upon everyone, there probably isn't a way to give an option to everyone, so basically, suck it up. It seems like you're in the minority.

BootyGod December 4 2008 11:16 AM EST

And it seems like ALL of you need to chill and remember to respect the other people on this site.

1st off, OB -was- punished for doing the chat thing. 2nd, it was a JOKE. He never meant for the messages to come back.

The messages may not be annoying to most, BUT people on the default chat only have 6-7 lines of chat. When an op refreshes with the join/leave messages up, you just say goodbye to 3 lines of chat. Every refresh of a non-op is two.

While I don't find this all that annoying most of the time, during some more robust conversations, a bunch of joins/leaves can really slow down the conversation.

At the same time, I do really enjoy greeting people as they come in.

Now, there are a variety of solutions to this to accomodate both sides.

1) Jon can either keep them or get rid of them (them being join/departs) and one side can just deal.

2) You can put a toggle in settings saying whether you want them or not.

3) You can leave them out of default rooms and create a User room where chat actions are listed (kicks/kills/ops/departs/joins)

There are probably other solutions i r 2 st00pid to figure out. But those are the one's I've seen other sites use.

Oh! And before you say "just expand your chat", just don't. If every argument for something becomes the default sucks, just change it, maybe the default should just be changed? We have to judge the state of things by how they are presented, imo.

BootyGod December 4 2008 11:17 AM EST

Sorry for spelling errors. For some reason my back button wouldn't work, so no corrections for me.

TheHatchetman December 4 2008 11:35 AM EST

"And it seems like ALL of you need to chill and remember to respect the other people on this site."

Silly wolfie... It's not like we have varying preferences and opinions. Don't you know that not agreeing with someone 100% is the severest for of disrespect (and possibly hatred) ever? It's been proven in the past that if ya disagree with someone, it's a personal attack. ~_^

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] December 4 2008 11:40 AM EST

I disagree with you hatchie, Get your battle sword ready ;). Arrrr..

QBOddBird December 4 2008 11:49 AM EST

"your not jon so dont pretend you are "

Can I pretend to be you, instead? I could borrow my niece's cute little fairy outfit and throw fits just like you!

PearsonTritonRaveshaw December 4 2008 7:20 PM EST

"and OB thanks for showing that your maturity level is about the same as a 2nd grader, no wonder rave likes you."

It's funny how people's first reaction to someone they don't like is to insult their "maturity level" because they really can't think of anything else. Throwing a tantrum ranks you way under OB1.

Anywho, I like the old chat better. I don't think it should have been changed in the first place. As they say, "if it ain't broken, don't fix it."

NotSuitablForChildren [Yeeeaahh.................] December 4 2008 8:40 PM EST

I recently decided to come back and was surprised that the "join/left" room feature had been disabled. I am very glad that it has been reinstated. Otherwise one would have to watch the room list very carefully to see when their friends log on. Also, since it's reinstatement, I have become extremely popular. Not that I am complaining.

QBOddBird December 4 2008 9:07 PM EST

That's probably because before, we never realized you were there.

Now we see NSFC join, and we're all like "Hey, I remember you! Hey NSFC!"

Not to mention you have Bush eating a kitty for a user avatar.

th00p December 5 2008 4:07 AM EST

I agree with OB.
