Run that fight: ability to watch a fight (in Off-topic)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 10 2008 5:49 PM EST

I'd like a "run that fight" page that allows us to select other people's chars to fight each other. It wouldn't keep any records of the fights. I think this could make the wiki and mentoring new players much easier. Just show them how to run the fights. Testing would become really easy for people seeking data points. It might also help with all the non-change month requests for free retrains.

Like, running a test fight so you see what would happen, but without the risk of exp or $$$?

I hope that's not what you mean.

Cube December 10 2008 6:13 PM EST

I think novice means with two other people's characters.

But I guess you could give it a nominal fee of something like 5k per fight to prevent abuse.

Fatil1ty December 10 2008 6:14 PM EST

Novice you realize that that would be mainly exploited by vets and upper level players. It would take away the risk of knowing whether you are ready to beat a player higher than you. In your case it's not that large of a benefit but for players like me I would love to see if so and so tank has his NW in their weapon or in their other items. If I know that my ELB for example is much bigger then I would be able to predict a win.

The way that NW is displayed as a total allows teams to keep the NW distribution on each minion private which is of GREAT value I would assume

QBOddBird December 10 2008 6:15 PM EST

Even so, tossing 100k to ensure that you get a perfect fightlist without chancing a loss of EXP is worthwhile. That would be awful - zero wasted BA for anyone means zero change in stats aside from NCB and NUB progress.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 10 2008 6:15 PM EST

No, you couldn't use it on your own chars.

So if I wanted to see your fight against Tal, I'd go to the "holo deck" and set the named of both chars. The result would then display as if you had used rouge to attack tal.

three4thsforsaken December 10 2008 6:15 PM EST

there won't be abuse, all it does it save time, instead of simply asking them

if anything I think it should spend BA (for server issues). Of course it will give no benefit to anyone other than info

QBOddBird December 10 2008 6:17 PM EST

If it spent BA, that would be fine. The only potential abuse there is for CPs, at most.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 10 2008 6:19 PM EST

I guess BA would be a good trade off, but it wouldn't earn CP, or any kind of rewards. I'd really like it to be free, at least for NUB users so they can really see how certain setups work against others.

QBOddBird December 10 2008 6:23 PM EST

For NUBs, I see less potential for abuse (aside from getting them to check your new fightlist for you) and more "profit."

It's not that I dislike the idea. I think it would be great, and I'd love to see some fights. However, it is _so_ ripe for abuse that I can't agree with it.

Cube December 10 2008 6:26 PM EST

I don't like the idea in the sense that it ruins the mystery, but just my opinion.

It could work fine if it cost BA.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 10 2008 6:26 PM EST

Your "abuse" is at the very worst 10 extra BA a day, and that's stretching it. I don't think anyone changes fightlists that often at the level you're talking about.

QBOddBird December 10 2008 6:29 PM EST

Yes, we're talking about a level at which one logs in twice a day to burn BA, far more easily can avoid missing a single BA, and progress is made on the slight amount of BA lost already.

It does not take much. The upper game is stagnant (or, as I've so often heard it, long-term. Which is another way of saying it is stagnant.)

Rawr December 10 2008 6:33 PM EST

I thought he meant it as a part of the tutorial, the combat portion is pretty vague. Its fight, win or lose, and move on. The strategy part is pretty untouched :(

PearsonTritonRaveshaw December 10 2008 6:54 PM EST

This would so totally rock for the current tourney. Just select characters with an MPR that you think you might be able to get to within the given time frame, and a strategy that you believe will beat koy, and BAM! Just shoot for that!. =P

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 10 2008 9:48 PM EST

6BA regeners still need to log on 3 times a day to use all of their BA fyi OB.

QBOddBird December 10 2008 9:53 PM EST

every 9 hours or so, so really it is 2.5 - but I didn't feel it needed rounding.

My point still stands.

Yukk December 10 2008 10:00 PM EST

What about "Hey OB, run my character against X for me and tell me how I did." type abuse ?

QBsutekh137 December 10 2008 10:07 PM EST

What if it were just samples of fights already run?

Then the "viewer" would need to research a fight, and click on a "replay" link. I wouldn't expect Jonathan to store all replays, that's a lot of text. Just a sample.

If anyone thinks that knowledge would be too much to reveal, or would "benefit veterans" (seriously, what is that silliness?), please post. Or CM me directly. I'd love to hear the argument against it.

And sure, open it up to a complete "arena fight", but make it cost a BA. I'd be fine with that, too.
