SPOILER ALERT

in the end the main character says "My eyes are open" I don't get it. What does it mean, and why is it so important in killing Tyler?

Throughout the film he is learning who he is, learning what's important in his world. He doesn't really kill Tyler. He becomes Tyler finally when he can see everything clearly.

Yeah. What JW said. Also, remember, he takes on the Tyler persona to gain strength and purpose in a world he hates. Remember the scene where he hurts himself and blames it on his boss? The scene with the lye burn?

It was always just him gaining strength and courage, but with an outlet. A symbol he could look to for guide. At the end he can finally live without that tough guy persona.

Heh, you just finished watching this on "movies that don't suck" or whatever? I rewatched like half of it, but I've seen it so many times already heh.

Anyway, as they said above, the movie's mostly about the main character coming to terms with the fact that he doesn't need Tyler in order to live. So when he realizes this, he is able to rid himself of Tyler.

thanks guys, I've seen it several times but every time that line bothers me. Perhaps I was expecting it be more literal or a comeback to some earlier reference but I guess it was just metaphorical all along.

Btw, that movie rocks my world every time I see it. So well done!
