Disable forging for the duration of the New User Bonus.

Improve forging efficiency for non-NUBs.

Give new users back their PM box in Chat.

Create a clear means of differentiation between held rental items and owned items.

Thank you.

the chat client is a huge thing from my point of view...

I just wish one of the new breed of webchat clients would work for us...

Guardian December 31 2008 11:15 AM EST

very good ideas !
i hope someone hear it and things change!

Andy December 31 2008 11:37 AM EST

More options when you BS! So instead of the list of 5 or so, like longer! Instead of upgrading 5 points at a time, there should be an option to upgrade 100 at a time!

AdminNightStrike December 31 2008 2:07 PM EST

I thought new users didn't get a forging bonus, as of a change a while ago.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 31 2008 2:09 PM EST

they don't but that doesn't stop them

AdminNightStrike December 31 2008 2:12 PM EST

So wah'ts wrong with letting people forge that want to forge?

tasuki [UFC] December 31 2008 2:14 PM EST

"Disable forging for the duration of the New User Bonus. "

If a NUB wants to forge and like it, why should we stop them? Some people like to grow; some people like to try new things.

BootyGod December 31 2008 3:42 PM EST

NightStrike:

CB has a steep enough learning curve has it is. If you want to retain players, setting them up for failure is not the way to do it.

The NUB is capable of giving player the ability to compete. But the entire rest of CB makes it nearly impossible. Steep learning curve, ridiculous amounts of farms which 90% of new players can't beat, and the fact that the NUB starts the second you create your account.

The starting store is ridiculous, encouraging players to waste money on items they won't need in 3 days. Encouraging players to go out and rent items that will typically bloat their PR is also silly. And FORGING? Of all the... bad... things to tell a new player to do, the TUTORIAL (you know, the thing teaching them how to play) is telling them to do the one thing that every player in the game (this includes the forgers) know is terrible.

When it comes down to it, everything else is okay, as long as the new player is spending the most precious resource in the game (BA) on something that MATTERS. Losing gives exp. Going into battle with a stupidly high PR still gives exp.

But if you're not fighting, you're not growing, and there is zero chance someone is going to stay like that.

Ignore the bad tutorial, sure. But, come on, at least stop them from forging.

New users having the ability to PM seems self explanatory, and forging has long been awful.

The last suggestion is just stopping someone from making a really annoying mistake later (hardly a lazy button, as it's unavoidable. You're just rolling the dice)

Soul Eater December 31 2008 3:44 PM EST

Taking Forge away from NUB's is just stupid. They should have the same right to use the forge as you veteran's do.

[RX3]Cotillion December 31 2008 4:37 PM EST

I agree with GW. It makes complete sense to not allow NUBs to forge.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 31 2008 4:46 PM EST

limiting one's gameplay options, even when in their best interests is probably going to be seen negatively.

perhaps we could just place a warning on the forge page that explains why it is a bad idea instead of decreasing options for playstyles?

BootyGod December 31 2008 4:55 PM EST

Dude, don't throw it in their face.

Just take away the option on their toolbar. We're not trying to make them outcasts here. In a dream scenario, new players shouldn't even discover forging until they're in Gondor! :P

PearsonTritonRaveshaw December 31 2008 5:07 PM EST

Quick! Remove the word "Forge" from everybody's vocabulary! Censor it by all means necessary! Don't let the infection spread any further!

AdminNightStrike December 31 2008 5:40 PM EST

GW,

How about a warning that triggers if you have a NUB telling the player that forging is probably not the best way to spend their time?

BootyGod December 31 2008 5:41 PM EST

That'd be great. Anything would help on that note.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 31 2008 5:45 PM EST

I'd like to chime in with a repeat of a consistently well received idea that hasn't gotten any traction yet.

Start the NUB after people hit 100k, or pass a couple weeks.

QBOddBird December 31 2008 7:14 PM EST

Mmm, I should have added that to my list before I posted it, novice.

Delay the NUB before it begins.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw December 31 2008 8:25 PM EST

If the NUB were to be delayed, would it be up to the user when he wants to activate it, or just after a certain amount of time has passed or a number of battles challenged?

three4thsforsaken December 31 2008 8:27 PM EST

wouldn't the game be a little too hard for new players if they have to get out of the 1k-100k score area without a bonus? It's hard enough with a bonus.

QBOddBird December 31 2008 8:30 PM EST

The idea, 3/4, is to give them a little time to get familiar with the game before they start using their bonus so they don't waste a ton of it trying to figure things out.
