Why do we have LESSER tats? (in General)

kevlar January 4 2009 1:33 AM EST

I don't understand why they are part of the game. I know they are cheaper and easier to acquire early on, but what is the point or why would one want to do that? Maybe for tournaments? I haven't played in those yet so don't know.

And if there is really a point to them, can they spawn in the regular store and NOT in the rare auction screen?

AdminTal Destra January 4 2009 1:39 AM EST

yes tourneys "occasionally" use lessers but really they are there to help new people get up and running.

did you expect to pay 700k for a base tat your first day?

BootyGod January 4 2009 1:44 AM EST

Lesser tats are totally worthless and counter productive.

kevlar January 4 2009 1:45 AM EST

I read about lesser tatoos and they didn't make any sense to me, I just saved up 250-300k I believe it was to get a regular one.

Tats are inflated right now, and just having normal ones would help that out a lot, imo. Which brings up another thing that bugs me lately, is that I would like to try different tatoos/familiars out, but the cost to do that at this point is insanity. Especially if you don't like the new tatoo and switch back, that is just money completely burnt.

Base tats shouldn't cost that much... I don't even think Jon believes that.

The Old Gods January 4 2009 1:49 AM EST

It bugs me that u cant convert lesser tat's to normal tats.

bartjan January 4 2009 2:26 AM EST

Why do we have double chain mails?

The answer to that question may be also be one of the answers to your question...

Guardian January 4 2009 5:05 AM EST

kevlar, tell a new guy to try to buy a full tat, and a huge guy like you allways overbid him.

Lessers are great to work on beginning and cheap( i paid 25 k for an lesser to a friend). Also he can feel if hew wants be tank a Toa or maybe a Familiar... cheaply.

i Also think they should go to store like you said, because a newbie cant compete with huge guys cash in auctions, even thought none cares about lessers to much so not a lot bids on it.

Nehemiah January 4 2009 8:36 AM EST

i like Boon's idea, we should have a way to convert lesser tats into normal tats.

Like maybe after a certian amount of Exp they lvl up into normal tats?

God Bless you!

Jesus Loves you!

"Base tats shouldn't cost that much... I don't even think Jon believes that."

With the new tattoo artist, base tattoos will be quite expensive.

If I remember correctly, a base EF just went for close to 1M.

So I respectfully disagree with the above statement, I believe Jon wants base tattoos to be very expensive, at least for normal experienced older players.

NUB's can make that in less then 4 days if they are doing things right.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 4 2009 11:15 AM EST

i too think that if the tat artist is to remain as is, we need tats in rentals as well as an option to convert lessers to normals with a cash fee.

lessers are also the only tats allowed in tournaments. it would be cool if lessers went the way of the dodo, but if that happens (or even if it doesn't) the spawn rate of normal tats should be adjusted greatly.

The Old Gods January 4 2009 11:16 AM EST

Ranger is right i sold a EF for 1.077 mil and bought one for 900k

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] January 4 2009 11:18 AM EST

Ranger many bases have went for nearly 1M in the past month....

QBRanger January 4 2009 11:19 AM EST

Dude,

Then get rid of lesser tattoos and just give all T characters a base lesser tattoo which can be converted once for free.

For all Tournaments that allow tattoos.

Then it will be fair for all T characters.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 4 2009 11:23 AM EST

exactly ranger, that is why i said it would be cool. that has also been my goal all along with tournaments, anything ya need for it, ya start with.

Converting all lesser to regular would be a great stimulus package. :)

Can anybody say "Money Sink" ??? Lots of things exist in this game to absorb the CBD.

Not really Bart, the point of a Tat is to level it up. A tat is based on EXP, which makes it unique to the other items in the game. Why spend valuable exp early on leveling a lesser tat? Again, it didn't take much for me to save up for a regular tat when I started.

Armor/Weapons is an entirely different concept to the game. You buy cheap armor/weaps early and buy improved ones later. The difference is whether you buy them early or late doesn't effect the outcome. They have static attributes which are not effected by EXP.

how many NUB's do things right?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 5 2009 12:22 AM EST

"Can anybody say "Money Sink" ??? Lots of things exist in this game to absorb the CBD."

the previous incarnation of the tat artist was a better money sink. all proceeds were removed from the game. some is removed now, but only when the auctioneer spawns a tat, not when a player sells one.

Lesser tattoos exist as a stupidity tax for veterans and a clever trap for newbies.

Bart, did you miss the last thread about DCMs? ;) There is no reason for them, apart from being a new player trap. And do we really have the player retention, or is early CB gameplay that easy we need traps like these?

Bart, what positive aspects do things like DCMs and Lesser Tattoo's bring to the game?

miteke [Superheros] January 6 2009 10:27 PM EST

Actually they did serve a purpose. A long time ago normal tattoos were VERY expensive. Before you could afford a normal tattoo, you bought a lesser tattoo. As soon as you could afford it you bought the real thing. Now, however, they are quite affordable. Still, I will occasionally buy one if I want to outfit a farm, then sell it later when it is no longer needed.

Flatcap [East Milwaukee Devival] January 7 2009 4:23 AM EST

Miteke's right they were incredibly hard to find and horribly expensive. And they are again to a lesser extent. They offer a stepping stone to new players who can't afford a normal tat right away. They can grow that lesser and sell it to the shop to help pay for a tat later at a larger level than base.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] January 7 2009 7:10 AM EST

I love lesser tats, they hav a function. And currently lesser tats are spawning in auctions not in store... (bug?!)
