Phishing (in Off-topic)

People are so stupid. How can so many people fall for this so often?

I recently started helping a friend with his business. (He owns and operates a consignment service that deals mainly with Ebay and some local auction houses) and I swear I've only been here like two weeks, but everyday there are at least two calls from people asking if we have their car... ... ...

I'm like uhhh /facepalm...

(His add has an ebay thing in it because the company does a large portion of sales via Ebay) So people call everyday all victims of phishing VIA Craig's List. Not even Ebay... but Craig's List...

All the same...

"Hi I recently sent a stranger X amount of money and they said they would be shipping my car to me but it's been awhile and I'm concerned..."

"You are retarded."

"... oh I'm stupid and didn't realize that even though on the front page of Craig's List it states that any offer to ship a vehicle is 100% fraudulent, I would do it anyways and then call a company not even associated with Craig's List asking for help! Thank you for pointing this out to me!! I'll go jump off a bridge now!"

Seriously If you're dumb enough to fall for phishing, you deserve to be ripped off...

/end rant

Agreed.

One of my co-workers the other day came into my office and asked what the access code (or something) was to get into our webmail. When I asked what she needed it for, she said she got an e-mail from "tech support" claiming they need her user name, password, and access code (which we don't use) to validate whatever it was they were claiming.

Me: "um, [name], that's a phish. Don't answer it."

I just had to rant to get it off my shoulders. Some lady today *apparently* sent ~$6,000.00 (U.S) to a phish and was very unhappy when I told her that she is the Darwin award winner of the day.

Meh around here stupid is the only qualifier to be Darwin of the day.

Honestly people around my city always throw it around to mean stupid, I never really knew what the phrase meant until recently.

you should tell them you do in fact have the car but they have to come pick it up. and then the cops will be waiting.
