Confusion about the GoM and MenC (in General)

Ranger's post about auction spawns has made me verify something which has me confused.

GoM's and the MenC
I thought they both influenced weapon + directly.

Let's say I wielded a one-handed short edged weapon at + 10 (In this case a Vorpal Blade), and GoMs +10. I thought the end result would be a weapon at + 12 (10+20%). That would have been useful. You forfeit better glove options for +to hit, and it gets better the higher you upgrade your weapon. Sounds good. Even if light tanks suck, but that is not the point.

But, errrr...turns out it only gives me a flat +20 bonus to hit. (Battle log shows Bonus to Hit 53 instead of 33) Now, I really don't have a mathematically inclined mind, and I don't get half of the game's intricate mechanics, but isn't that extremely poor? That means it's static whatever my weapon's + is, if I get it right.

Or is there something I don't get? I have heard the two items suck, but this much...I wonder if, like Ranger pointed, they should spawn in auctions.

Yes, they add directly.

There was a time, not too long ago where evasion was significantly overpowered. Even the best tanks in all of CB could not hit quite a few evasion minions.

The GoM and MenC were introduced to try to overcome that inequality in the game. However, even with a 1H weapon, evasion was still quite powerful.

Now that evasion is less uber, these items are useless.

Even when evasion was overpowered they were still, in all reality, useless.

The GoM would not be used instead of BG for an archer due to the increased damage if you could hit, and they did not work for missiles. For melee tanks the TG is a far superior glove. For increased ENC load and increased damage.

The MenC is vastly inferior to the Elven Cloak as that item gives bonuses to dexterity AND skills. With the bonus to skills, a melee tank needs less xp for Bloodlust and can boost his dexterity. And the EC boosts dexterity as well.

So, in conclusion, these items are worthless. As evidence by almost nobody using them and their base prices in auctions.

Each + is more expensive than the last, so in a sense you do get increasing benefits.

Then I'm not sure what the post-battle stats are trying to tell me. A +24 weapon, combined with a + 10 GoM and +9 MenC should give me a +30.96 weapon, no? (24+29%)

What I read in the logs is: Base bonus 60% (What a vorpal blade has as a minimum)
Bonus to hit: 53%.

Where does the 53 come from?

24 + 20 + 9 = 53.

Remember the GoM gives 2% PTH per +, the cloak only 1.

And the "base bonus" is your max dexterity chance to hit with full dexterity bonus. Which is about 3-4 times their dexterity.

Everything has been understood now, thanks people, I appreciate the explanation. Nothing complicated, but sometimes I need to see numbers in a different context to ''get'' them :)
