does archery give 100 plus to hit in melee too? (in General)

I was just wondering, because I use a melee weapon and it has a base chance to hit of 40. It doesn't make sense for a ranged weapon to have such a high hit chance in melee when a melee weapon has such a low one. Right?

"The penalties to ranged weapons used during melee combat are 80% for Slings, 60% for Bows and 40% for Crossbows."

That goes for pth in melee rounds as well.

so they lose damage and plus to hit?

You lose dexterity as well as pth, and Bows fire every other round. Not a good place to be in for an archer.

Just plus to hit and dex, damage actually increases in melee rounds.

So it really doesn't do anything then huh? Man I picked the wrong weapon. From what I was told dex doesnt do much if you have the + on a weapon and in melee bows go to what melee weapons have base to hit plus they get a damage bonus. It looks like almost 100% damage bonus too from the battles I've seen

It really just depends on the opponents you fight, sometimes it doesn't matter but other times it can be the fight.

Having enough of a dexterity advantage can give you an extra +100 chance to hit (that is, 140 with a +0 weapon). This is really dependent on how much dexterity you have compared to your opponent, though, rather than a fixed number like "1,000,000 DX gets you an extra hit every time." For example, you currently have full DX advantage over any base minions, or enchanters and mages that generally don't train dexterity. However, fighting other tanks around your level, they are likely to have DX advantage over you, allowing them to hit you more often, and lowering your chance-to-hit actually below the 40 bth of your weapon, as base to-hit is based on equal DX.

So adding more dexterity won't help you against mages, but it will help you against tanks. The funny thing about DX is that it's not terribly useful unless you've got more than the other guy. Whether that's 100 to 20 or 300,000 to 50,000, it has basically the same effect in battle.

If you are trying to beat opponents that currently have more DX then you do, I would recommend investing in DX for a while.
