By Died? you mean what? BSOD? or just won't turn on?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] May 28 2009 11:22 PM EDT

doh, i was wondering more about the video card, not the sound card.

It is a very good video card.

several consecutive blue screens, followed by consecutive failures finding the bootdisk, followed by opening the case to find the hard drive extremely hot. after putting another hard drive in it, the power button light won't even light up.

hooking up the hard drive to an external case and another computer it won't even spin. i am not sure what could wipe out both the hard drive and the other, but it does seem dead.

lol send it to me I will see if I can fix it, if I can have it if I do. I need a better computer.

I'm guessing by all the alien ware stuff on there, you have an alien ware PC. They have technical support.

InebriatedArsonist May 29 2009 12:57 AM EDT

From the sounds of things, I'd say the motherboard is the prime suspect.

I agree with IA, the motherboard seems to be malfunctioning, and has caused the Power Supply to send to much Power to the HDD. Have you done any upgrading yourself?

IndependenZ May 29 2009 3:44 AM EDT

lol, my computer crashed on me as well yesterday evening. Now it keeps rebooting to a blue screen until I enter safe mode or cut the power. , Oh yeah and it sends red pixels flying right across the screen (even in BIOS). Luckily my HDD is perfectly fine, I was able to back it up through safe mode. It seems the crash has got something to do with both my wireless network card and my video card :'(

Brakke Bres [Ow man] May 29 2009 6:28 AM EDT

yup start calling alien ware, they have support. but most likely if the HDD died. And the reason why the other HDD won't spin is probably that alien ware tattoo-ed the HDD so the laptop won't work with anything else.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] May 29 2009 6:40 AM EDT

ow and 750 Watt PSU for that configuration? damn overkill, so it's probably not the PSU that is causing problems.

Mine only has 620 Watt and far more in it than that.

sorry for the confusion, the old system was a dell which is the one that died. it was a dell xps 200 system and just at 3 years old.

the alien ware is what i ordered to replace it. i do weekly data backups on an external hard drive so i got my stuff.

the psu on the old one had acted up about a year ago, but it was just making extra noise. i knew from that point on that it could go out. i had planned accordingly but just didn't expect it to take the hard drive with it.

it certainly could have been a mb issue or psu or both together, i have just never seen that exact thing happen.

as for the alien ware, i hope it comes in soon. i believe the 750 w psu is their base model. i think they put that on all their systems to accommodate the dual vids they offer as options.

I feel your pain mate. I moved house about 6 weeks ago and my PC died. Claire always wanted me to move over to a laptop though, but the moving seriously hit our finances.

Wednesday, Claire surprised me and took me out and bought me an;

Acer Aspire 6930G
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor, 2.0GHz processor speed, 2MB cache.
4GB DDR2 RAM.
16in full HD Acer CineCrystal widescreen.
250GB SATA hard drive capacity.
nVidia GeForce 9600M GT graphics card, 1GB graphics memory.

Cost ᆪ590. She got it from Argos of all places!

(Then I see today Dell released a new Laptop Deal, which I originally though was better, but is slightly worse specs! ;) )

Still, it's nowhere near your Alienware! :P Enjoy your new PC mate! :D

it should play my warhammer fine! hehe. ; )

i thought about trying one of alien ware's gaming laptops, but they would've been about 500 bucks more.
