hi there, i'm looking to buy a really good, accurate, hand held GPS device and i know absolutely nothing about them. i'm looking for something that is sub meter or sub foot in accuracy. my price range is roughly 2500 USD. if anyone can share some knowledge with me on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Most are cell phone addons, however if you click the Specialized electronics (39) tab you get more handheld devices.

If you can find out where to get them, I'm pretty sure you can get hand-held GPS systems similar to the ones used in the military for close to $1000-1500.
They're usually accurate between 2-3 feet, and can go as accurate as within 2-3 inches.
25 **hundred** ??? For a GPS???
consumer grade gps is only accurate to meters, to get down to the levels edy is asking for I think the price goes up

Sub foot accuracy, but I don't know the price. I don't know where you live so I couldn't search for a place to buy.
The price on the GeoXH is about 7-9k. Depends on which model you get.
cool thanks for all the links guys :)
and yes NS 2500$ i want something that i can use to get me to within a few feet of a gate valve or a curb stop in the winter, the less snow i have to handle before i get to play in the frozen tundra the better :)

That would make my Geocaching so much easier...
