Strategy for single minion Hal team (in General)

Froy June 16 2009 8:26 PM EDT

HoC
AoJ
HF
Belegs'
DBs
Shield?

PL
HP
EC?

Not too sure how to a run a team like this. Any help is appreciated.
What kind of targets should a team like this focus on?
Everything above is my best guess; all up for modification. :)

AoJ + skill + Halidon can cause... weird effects (as in, override the Hal's archery). Or at least it used to. Not sure if it's fixed already or not, but I'd try to keep away from training any skills on the minion wearing the Hal for the time being.

DB+EC is a bit of an overkill, but eh, why not. It only helps against physical damage-dealing targets however, and it doesn't help that much during melee rounds, so you should probably focus on killing everything in the ranged rounds.

IMO, you have two choices - you either go with a fireball minion (helps clear out secondary targets or targets with high evasion), as it gets better and better as more minions get wiped out, but this means you are highly susceptible to AMF and the gear doesn't help you much... or go with a Giant Strength + Ethereal Chains minion, equipped with another ranged weapon (preferably a Sling of Death) that serves a similar purpose to the fireball (but in this case, you are susceptible both to DM and EC).
Of course, you can always go with a full AS minion and hope you can outlast the enemy, whoever they are.

As a single minion you can do 1 of 2 things.

Be another attack minion or support your HF.

It sounds like you went the latter route.

Your minion then can do 1 of 2 things. Be a wall or enchanter. PL on the minion does not work since the familiars skill level will be higher due to the AoJ effects. Other skills are very limited. I would not waste xp on evasion, just boost your spells. BL does not work of course.

I would also use DM instead of EC since AS/GA is one of the main ways a HF dies.

With my HF character I want to learn just enough DM to stop their GA. You should do similar.

Put the rest into AS.

You have the right gear, but I personally would use EB over DB and a BoM.

Using that minion as an enchanter carries a very large benefit. You can equip any items and not worry about Encumbrance. EO and ED spells are unaffected by it and your HF gets 150% benefit if you use a named AoJ. !

A very powerful strategy, and frequently used with mage gear and a DD familiar.

"PL on the minion does not work since the familiars skill level will be higher due to the AoJ effects."

PL will junction over at the same amount as you have trained (unless you have Dex Malus on your minion). Whichever minion is to the left uses PL, so you would have to have your Hal spawn behind (Minion has no Weapon/DD) for it not to use its PL.

It might be worth trying if you plan on using your Minion as a Wall/Enchanter to support your Hal, over it being another Damage Dealer (in which case you'd probably want to use a different skill anyway).

I reckon you go with Ranger's suggestion. better off preventing death by GA than using PL anyway.
