Type 2 Diabetes (in Off-topic)

I've just been diagnosted as having Type 2 Diabetes. Not a great surprise, I've been trying to deal with high blood pressure for the last 5 odd years, and my Mum has both.

Time for some lifestyle and dietry changes.

Time to go runnning!

Lifestyle changes can in fact reverse the diabetes.

Proper diet as well. Also, weight loss is a key treatment option.

It seems you know what you must do.

Good luck enacting those changes. If you need any advice, please let me know. I know many endocrinologists where I work and can get you answers to any questions you may have.

Are you on oral medication or insulin?

Thanks Ranger!

No medicine yet, first will be monitoring and hopfully control with Diet and Exercise.

Even hough it runs in the family, and I'm overwieght (by about 3/4 stone), I've not had any symptoms and am a little to young at 33! :P

But with my Mum having had Type 2 for some years now, I know what I've got to do.

No more Donner Kebabs. ;)

Good luck, GL (I don't think you'll need luck, though).

An older college friend of mine got his Type 2 under control in just a matter of months -- I don't think he needs any medication at all at this point...

And from the "it could be worse" department (I know, a lame angle, but still), my best friend's wife was diagnosed somewhat out of the blue with Type 1 adult-onset diabetes more than a decade ago. That has definitely affected many aspects of their lives since she can't "lifestyle" the diabetes away in that case. Hello insulin pump.

I have every faith in your resilience and focus! Best wishes!

No medicine is the best news!!

But serious lifestyle and dietary changes are needed, but you know that.

Now the ball is in your court and you know how to slam dunk it.

Just do it!!

:D

It's kinda ironic that this has probably been bought on by my lack of exercise, which really stems from my first diagnosis of High Blood Pressure. :/

I first fond out about that when I went to join a gym to exercise more and lose weight, and was told I couldn't join. My then Doctor told me to stop the Martial arts and Regular Badminton I played until it was under control, and I've never really got back into my stride ever since.

Bleh.

Prescription trips to the gym here I come! (At least I can go with my Mum and give her more motivation to continue working out!)
