Went to chop lumber in the woods and guess what........-_-

It's the first time I catch that damn plant allergies syndrome and now it's been 5 days of intense itches and burns. So if you've got any good remedy, please tell me.

Works wonders.

Also prescription strength anti-histamines will do the trick.

Alright thank you =)

The only time I ever got poison ivied, the only thing I used was a q-tip and some bleach...

Does not soothe, but it dries the sore out so it will not ooze and spread...

Zanfel, usually works better than prescription anti-histamines for me. Unless it's really bad or on your face or something, then I would recommend going to the doctor and getting a shot immediately.

zanfel changed my wife's life. we have a ton of poison ivy growing near our creek and our dog gets in it and then the wife gets the oil off of the dog. it actually bonds with the oil to pull them from the skin making the itch much less and the duration extremely shorter than without it.

tecnu extreme medicated poison ivy scrub is a much cheaper but still effective product if you can find it as well. it also bonds and removes along with some deadening agent i believe.

pretty much everything else will treat the symptoms but not get rid of the oil.

oh, and next time sing "the lumberjack song" and you should be fine! ; )

Be careful with this one, but what always works for me is to take some gasoline and put it over the rash. It will dry it out very quickly, just a wee bit dangerous around fire though. Apply with a Q-tip.

Lick it... The saliva will kill it! No im just kidding please dont lick it.

Lochnivar August 3 2009 7:24 PM EDT

technically the oozing from the rash doesn't cause it to spread...

The best treatment I ever got for poison ivy was a prednisone prescription. Regular old anti-histimines work for the itch.

I used to wake up scratching my legs raw from the stuff... pouring rubbing alcohol over that helps you forget the itch in a hurry.

If you think you have been in poison ivy flushing with running water as soon as possible is the best thing. Remember, it takes something like 24 to 72 hrs before you actually show signs so any clothes or bedding you've been near in that time could use a wash.

The lack of poison is perhaps one of my favourite things about vancouver island!

Don't scratch.

Old Age Remedy my mom used on me when I was a kid. Partially Cooked Oatmeal and Witch Hazel. I tried just the Witch Hazel before it was not as effective as the Oatmeal mixed with it. Make it into a paste and make a pack it over the rash it will soak the oil up and dry it out.
