My NCB - Hints and Questions (in General)

Vicious Cat August 16 2009 8:18 AM EDT

OK, so first my hints:
When retiring a character, don't forget to transfer all their money as well as their equipment (important if they're still holding over $22M !!)
Also, don't buy any BA while they're retired, as you won't be able to unretire them while you're over 160 BA.
S0, four days later than planned, my NCB thread.

What strats are going around these days? I haven't spent an awful lot of time on the forums for too long (RL issues), and there is an awful lot of new stuff around.
I have a few bits and pieces in my armoury, and I wouldn't mind playing a full tank - something I don't think I've ever done really -- so has anyone got any thoughts?

This isn't true anymore, you will be able to buy a maximum of 1600 BA to start your new NCB with. Keep a 1 mpr character to buy the BA with before creating the NCB ;)

As for the strategy, most people tend to run an easy / simple Enchanter single minion with a big Familiar strategy, often with junction (Amulet of Junction) to enhance everything.

Tank: get a ToA, then weapons only need to be upgraded on the X, the ToA does the PTH for you. And you can have two weapons then and spend your money on their Xs, whilst getting both lots of PTH for free. Which is a huge money saver.

(Some people suggest only using one weapon then, to focus your cash spend. But a tank with one weapon - you're basically stuck with archers if you do that. Whereas you could go axbow/exbow and a big melee weapon)

The one downside of a tank strat is the cost versus the cost of ba. Unless you have lots of cash saved up you really can't afford both. So if you're aiming for a high flier in MPR terms you probably should stay away from tanks.

(A small tip to remember when you're starting out a tank - name the weapons. A base weapon gets a nice X150 to start with if it's named, which makes a huge difference and doesn't affect PR. Which means it doesn't affect rewards....)

Sorry Shade - I've just fallen foul of this - I retired my char with 22M, bought BA and couldn't unretire him until I'd got below 160.

the best method, as shade said, is to create a 1 mpr character and transfer your money over to him. then buy 1600 ba and start your ncb during a bonus xp time. i think it works out that if you start with 160 on that guy on a sunday and buy your daily ba, you can start your ncb during xp time on saturday.

It is true you can't unretire a character with more than 160 BA.

However you can buy 1600 BA with a 1 MPR character and then start your NCB.

AdminTal Destra August 16 2009 2:14 PM EDT

or do like me and have a 0 MPR character to buy BA, heck i didn't hire minions whats the point?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] August 16 2009 2:15 PM EDT

i had minions just to hold my gear for my ncb is all.

Vicious Cat August 16 2009 4:06 PM EDT

Yes, I think you are all assuming that I know what I am doing.
The problem was that after I'd shifted all my gear from my higher character I retired him *without transferring his money*
So, I had to wait 4 days to get the money, but by then I had bought 400 odd BA in preparation, which I then had to blow before I could get my wad back.
It was a mistake guys - sorry

Vicious Cat August 16 2009 4:07 PM EDT

And JW - thanks for that.
I just thought there'd be a bit more sophisticated strats around nowadays than ToA Tank given all the new items.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] August 16 2009 4:11 PM EDT

do you have a tat yet and what other gear? that would probably be the best place to start with a strategy discussion.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] August 16 2009 4:15 PM EDT

also, i am a big believer in focusing an ncb run to accomplish one task. if you try to do too much then nothing gets done very well. with that in mind are you:

growing a tat, gearing up and trying strats or focusing on mpr?

QBJohnnywas August 16 2009 4:56 PM EDT

My guy was a single tank until a couple of weeks ago. The tank was the only minion, I had no tattoo, so I could use the elven cloak and trollskin armour. Worked brilliantly. Give the tank a fair amount of HP and the TSA gives you back a fair amount of HP per round. If your melee weapon is a hammer you can use the shield of capacity. Gives you a lot of extra damage. But if it's a single minion you're pretty much stuck with training archery and using bows, or getting a SoD.
