Need a new virus blocker.. (in Off-topic)

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] September 8 2009 12:30 AM EDT

My free trial of McAfee on my laptop is just about up and i dont feel like paying the $40 per year renew fee. So i was wondering if there are any really good free virus blockers out there? Cm or post them here.

Avira is my current selection for best free AV.

AVG is free to home users, or if you run a small business there is a small fee. Been using this program for years now and have had no problems. It will find stuff that others do not. Number 1 in my opinion

I'm interested in the one Nov mentioned, never heard of it. I used to use AVG until I was one of those who was unable to uninstall it off my system without formatting. Google "unable to uninstall AVG" and you'll see some other testimonials. I did load AVG on my parents old computer, and it has been fine, so hit or miss I guess.

Avast is much better than AVG. Never heard of the other one but I know avast is really good and looks nice.

looking nice is not a priority for anti virus software for me.
I just want one which works without doing anything else.

I used Avast for quite some time, but since six months I've been using Avira. Really, it's great. Gone are the trojans that try to look in my poker hands :P

Avira - "Get Antivir Premium
Full Version - NOW FREE"

Oooohh! =P

I used AVG, now have Avast. Thinking about this Avira thing.

I have avast, it only consumes little rescources.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 8 2009 10:10 AM EDT

Avast is great.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] September 8 2009 10:14 AM EDT

Avira is great, but sometimes their advertisements bugged me. I, however, found a great way to fix that: http://www.tipsfor.us/2009/03/18/avira-antivir-updates-to-version-9-make-it-more-usable/ .

Ohhh. No more interrupting my games with annoying notifications. Thanks!

Also, after trying about every free anti-anything software there is, I think Avira is one of the best. (If not the best for every day users.)

Second place goes to Avast, which is also a nice tool. With the added bonus of a slick interface :P
