Black Market. Good? Bad? (in Debates)

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- October 10 2009 4:25 PM EDT

Personally I think this game has a problem with rares being saturated, and introducing more rares into the game simply reduces the value of the other rares. So I vote bad. Thoughts?

Lord Bob October 10 2009 4:37 PM EDT

It's not the black market, it's the economy as a whole. The black market should stay, but it needs to be tweaked along with everything else.

Adminedyit [Superheros] October 10 2009 4:50 PM EDT

if you were to truly make rares rare then you would be inundated with cries of unfair and overpowered and i honestly think it would lower our already smallish player base by doing so.

Lord Bob October 10 2009 5:03 PM EDT

Edyit, that's because unlike in CB1, there is no climb to the top anymore. New players are presented with a gift-wrapped spot at the top of the game with enough cash to buy all the best equipment.

Step 1: kill the N*B.
Step 2: reduce rare items.

Burton October 10 2009 5:04 PM EDT

I think it's fine.
I mean really, how many rares get spawned from it a month, 4, if that?
Should stay in my opinion.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- October 10 2009 6:38 PM EDT

I would rather have LESS new players and MORE sticking around, than the current situation.

What LB typed.

The power of an item should never be balanced by its availability.

That is if you want to run an strategy game.

If you want to run a lottery, of who pulls the best item first, then sure, go for it.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 10 2009 7:23 PM EDT

I mean, we *all* liked Junction being moved to a Rare Amulet, meaning only those folk lucky, sorry, rich enough to get one of the first batch released could continue to use thier strategy.

Didn't we?

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- October 11 2009 2:39 AM EDT

So since when did being a strategy game mean that everything you need is handed to you?

Ever play Starcraft? I assure you that on level 1 you aren't handed a battle cruiser and told to go off and conquer the protoss...

Ever play WoW? You start off at the bottom of the barrel and climb climb climb, it's not register = free lvl 100s or whatever they are up to.

"So since when did being a strategy game mean that everything you need is handed to you?"

The ability to use or even purchase an item doesn't need to be 'handed' to you.

But limited to a handful of players in the game is utterly different.

"Ever play Starcraft? I assure you that on level 1 you aren't handed a battle cruiser and told to go off and conquer the protoss..."

Yes. And every Teran Player can make every unit. A battle Cruiser isn't limited to a handful of players.

"Ever play WoW? You start off at the bottom of the barrel and climb climb climb, it's not register = free lvl 100s or whatever they are up to"

Yes. Leveling is utterly different. Everyone can level to 80. Level 80 isn't limited to a handful of players on each server.

See the difference?

Black Market: Irrelevant. One item per week is hardly affecting the rarity of any item in this game.

Why yes, I did like this. First time I ever felt like CB had rare items. Too bad I'll never feel like that again.

Lord Bob October 11 2009 12:49 PM EDT

"Yes. Leveling is utterly different. Everyone can level to 80. Level 80 isn't limited to a handful of players on each server."

Everyone can level to 2,000,000 MPR here too, but in Warcraft you aren't handed Frostmourne upon signing up, and players here shouldn't have a shot at a Morgul Hammer in a week's time.

Using leveling in WoW vs. items here was a bad analogy GL. Jiraiya had it right.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 11 2009 6:29 PM EDT

IT's was a bad example mate. ;) Not my analogy.

But it is that in essence.

Frostmourne is 'rare', but Blizzard have realised the folly of 'rare' items in a game with a 'balanced' strategic e-sport.

It doesn't really matter about rarity in PvE, as it's just a ****block in your post level cap leveling.

But if you look at honour, honour points, and Emblem gear, Blizzard realised that everyone needed equal access to gear to be balanced.

It's why you're given set gear in the Tournament Realm mate.

"Why yes, I did like this. First time I ever felt like CB had rare items. Too bad I'll never feel like that again."

God for you.

I hope you didn't feel too bad for the players that had thier strategy ripped away from them becuase of it.
