Rock - Paper - Scissors (in General)

There is a game in ther web I stumbled across that's a little like CB. But not as good. ;) (I've mentioned it in pasing in a few threads)

Different, but doesn't personally have the appeal CB does.

Among other things (lke having a PR cap, fixed levels, and Random Item looting), it is firmly a Rock - Paper - Scissor design.

Each chaacter can talent up some 'Openers'. And you can spec into more than one. This is actually encouraged (If there was a single opener to rule all, that would be a sure sign of OP brokeness), and the game design is to switch out your Opener to counter your opponents Opener.

For example, you having the 'Endurance' opener might give you a significant advantage over someone using the 'Fireball' opener. While 'Fireball' would be great versus 'Decay' which in turn obliterates 'Endurance'.

Your openers are fixed once chosen, and you have to select which of the known ones you have before you fight.

In turn you opponent gets to choose thier Opener, and hopes to;

1) Have an Opener that willactually counter yours
2) Guess correctly which opener you've chosen to use

Totally Rock - Paper - Scissors.

Is that really the style of gameplay we want for CB?

Well, a mix of "do this for each battle" along with "these are your stable stats" is kinda interesting.

But it can't work in a game where an active attacker fights unattended defenders.

Are you saying the "openers" would be built in, or an added battle dynamic?

And sorry to call things out, but I've been commenting about rock-scissors-paper for a while now, not understanding why so many folks considered it the second coming, and the response has been lukewarm (at best). Why make a fuss now?

I always interpreted the "rock / paper/ scissor" part of CB to mean that there is no single strat that is the best.
meaning that if you make strat A to beat strat B someone can make strat C to beat A and B but loses to strat D.

Lots of laughs.

It just seems more and more balance threads are changing to "Well we need a pseciifc counter to This. Which would in turn need a specific counter to that..."

I just wanted to re air if we really want CB to go down that route.

(I know you don't, and I don't either! :P)
