Dexterity Goofiness? (in General)

Why is my dexterity fluctuating at a fixed rate in battles that have nothing that would impact my dexterity??? These characters are not casting an Dex based spells, not using any Dex based weapons. I can say that it's consistent. I get the higher Dex against some opponents and the lower against others but it always stays the same against those ops. What am I missing?

Using a ranged weapon in melee = dex penalty.

And some of your battles did not come to melee, while others did.

You might also notice some battles where you hit your opponents just fine during ranged then miss constantly in melee. In my opinion you should have a melee weapon for melee unless you have some specific reason to keep using a ranged.

Thanks... Now I get it. Of course that means having a more powerful melee weapon than I currently have as my ranged weapon does much more damage in Melee, provided I can hit.
