Affiliate Marketing (in Off-topic)

Anybody ever do this, or know anything about it?

I was chatting with a kid in class today and he was talking to me about this. He claims to make $100-$200 a day off it. (Thats ~$55k a year!) He said he spends maybe an hour each day working on it and about 6 hours in initial investment. He also said his only expense is for his his website/domain, which is $5/month, $10 to start.

From what he told me all you do is sell other peoples products for a large commission. He has his own website which generates traffic and picks up keywords to get hits. Then he has info on the products and such, and he just links them to the Buy link and gets a commission for it. (he claimed usually over 50%)

If this is legit, I need to start researching. Anybody have input?

He also told me about a site called ClickBank:

which is where he finds his products to sell.

I don't know, but it sounds like I want in before I drown myself in sorrows.

Sounds somewhat like one of the Four Hour Work Week strategies. The book is good, if just for the cupcake story. Tim Ferris is amusing, if overly full of himself, and there's a website.

Affiliate marketing is a very good way for the average person to generate money.

It does, however, require a very large time investment when you are first getting started, and probably for several years hence. If you do the work properly, then it will taper down to eventually stabilize at around a few hours a week, but that takes a lot of effort.

I am speaking from much experience in the area.

1. Anything where I can sit at home on my computer and "do work", is easy.
2. You can make money fast if you pick the right niche and promote it successfully. Sure you won't be "rich" but who wouldn't want a little extra income.
3. If you don't believe AM works, then your uninformed.

commissions arent large they are percents or fractions of percents and you have to get people to sign up through your web site which creates considerable work for you. to get to the level of making 100-200 dollars a day takes a lot of time and considerable effort.

i have a bachelors degree in marketing and have looked into this type of marketing and it is kind of a sham unless you get into the business early enough. its kinda like a pyramid scheme.
