I hate decorating. (in Off-topic)

AdminG Beee December 14 2009 7:15 AM EST

No seriously, I do.

I knew last week when wifey said she had taken today as a holiday and wanted me to do the same so we could spend some quality time together there was a real risk our definition of "quality" was likely to be different.

One ceiling complete, one more to go. Then eight walls... :(

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 [SHIELD] December 14 2009 7:16 AM EST

Thats the holiday spirit!

QBJohnnywas December 14 2009 7:21 AM EST

Lol, I just spent the weekend decorating. I wanted a nice relaxing weekend, because the week previous had been a bit mad at work. I got a lie-in. 9am Saturday morning. Then painting all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Nice. I feel your pain.

I feel your pain...

I get to take 'Holiday' off from work, to help Claire decorate the house...

That's no holiday... :(

Whiners! American husbands spent Thanksgiving Thursday eating, and Black Friday avoiding shopping, and then two _days_ decorating. Then had to go back to work on Monday.

And nary a complaint!

QBJohnnywas December 14 2009 9:09 AM EST

How did they avoid shopping?

hellstudios December 14 2009 9:16 AM EST

My dogs helped me decorate the house last night.

By taking dumps in 4 different places.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] December 14 2009 9:17 AM EST

Some hid, some claimed food poisoning or a hang-over, some went out to the shops -- then loitered in the automotive, sporting goods, or electronics sections, some said they'd "put up the lights while you're out, honey", some admitted to long-secret Mall Santa issues.

AdminG Beee December 14 2009 9:25 AM EST

All my shopping requirements can be met by simply right clicking and opening a new tab next to Carnage Blender. Wifey always supplies appropriate urls in advance and Crimbo shopping is complete.
I think she buys stuff for the kids and other folks that we know, although it's possible that Santa or the Elves do that..?
I'm not really sure how, but it always seems to be done on an annual basis with little or no intervention from myself.

AdminG Beee December 14 2009 9:26 AM EST

BREAKING NEWS:
Wifey has now authorised me to place a phone call to my golfing buddy (the one with the decorating company) with a view his guys doing the sitting room. I have to finish daughter #2's room, but I don't have to start the largest room in the house.

Sorted !

QBJohnnywas December 14 2009 9:55 AM EST

Look out, it's a trap!!

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 14 2009 11:01 AM EST

she's just testing you!

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 14 2009 11:09 AM EST

...and you've already failed. ; (

kevlar December 14 2009 11:30 AM EST

putting it all up is the 'ez' part... it's taking it all down and putting it all back in storage that is not so much fun. You have to admit though, when it's all up, it does look nice >:)

Wasp December 14 2009 1:04 PM EST

Decorating's not so bad. I do it for a living and it's okay. Granted it can be tedious at times but it's satisfying in a way.

AdminG Beee December 14 2009 2:04 PM EST

/me is still waiting on his decorating friend to call back...

Wasp, how quickly can you get to Edinburgh?

I'll collect you and bring you to my house. Good night out in my hometown as payment once you're finished :)

QBsutekh137 December 14 2009 2:24 PM EST

As an American Husband, I did not eat too much on Thanksgiving, had no shopping to avoid the Friday after, and I have yet to do any Christmas decorating (and don't plan on doing any).

Not sure where you're coming from, Bast. *smile*

Wasp December 14 2009 3:00 PM EST

I'd take you up on that offer if you like :P I'm free on the 27th for a couple days. If it's a question of a quick tosh then 2 rooms won't take long at all.

InebriatedArsonist December 14 2009 7:06 PM EST

I always offer to help friends with household improvements as long as dinner and beer is involved, Beee.

As far as decorating the house is concerned, you're missing out on a big piece of the labor pool: your children. Your daughters are easily old enough to be of use to you in your decorating endeavors, and you should feel no compunction about drafting them into the cause.

Lord Bob December 14 2009 7:30 PM EST

"I hate decorating."

Same.

The worst is decorating the tree. I've hated that part since I was young. At my place I only have three Christmas decorations to put up, and they all have Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo on them. But my Mom expects me to come over and help her with the tree every year. Ugh.

AdminG Beee December 14 2009 7:36 PM EST

If only it were that kind of decorating I was talking about LB.

Alas I'm painting and papering. Yuk, who puts wallpaper up nowadays anyway? I thought that was a 70's thing.

12:30am here and I've had enough of the one room I tackled today and it's not finished :(

As for getting the kids to help IA. Bleh, daughter #2's contribution today was, "Are you finished yet?". It's her bedroom...
Don't get me started on daughter #1 either. She isn't interested unless I post a picture of it on twitter or MSN her about it.

I hate decorating because I'm really bad at it. Hence the reason it's taken me 14hrs on and off all day just to do the smallest bedroom in the house :(
