The top 10 "most battles challenged" characters. (in General)

QBOddBird December 16 2009 4:21 AM EST

They're all from 2005, some of the oldest characters on CB and played by some of our most dedicated veterans...but several of them have been retired.

It's kind of sad to see old landmark characters retired and slowly dropping down the ranks in favor of an NCB, simply because it's just not worthwhile to try to make up too much lost ground. Vacations, even short ones, are character killers.

BA regen rate back up to */10, please? Maybe a few other changes to make it a little more viable to keep your character if you miss some time? I'm talking about making it possible to make up ground via devotion, instead of this "make up ground by tiny little inches because everyone hits their BA when it takes 9 hours to regenerate" ... "game." Or the Challenge Bonus could always be expanded alongside an overall score increase change, so that fighting ability is better rewarded.

Note: this isn't a personal change request, as I have no intent to ever be competitive again, nor would I want to even if the option were possible.

Sickone December 16 2009 4:28 AM EST

I find the thought of rewarding online presence mainly and anything else a distant secondary to be quite distasteful.

If anything, I would say we need a */30 or even a */60 rate, with challenge bonus min/max cap heavily extended (not at 100% max, but 200% max or even higher - then no more "higher BA regen means less penalties") - and also, a much higher hidden multiplier (or "fake base" if you will) for enemy PR/MPR (so fighting a 5 mil score target that only has 1 mil MPR would bring in far less XP than fighting, say, a 4 mil target with 2 mil MPR).

So, basically, the polar opposite of what you're proposing.
Oh, and a rolling bonus too :P

Speaking as #6 on the battles as challenger list..

A switch back to 6/10 would drop me even further down the tables.... I work, I go out (I don't have a smart phone)...

Some tweak to keep old chars around I am all for... changing the regen rate, not so much.

Joel December 16 2009 4:45 AM EST

If the regen rate were changed to /10, I would quit. I'm serious.

We Have Wacky EXP and Money Times Why not a Wacky BA Time with Reduced Rewards and a Vice Versa averaging just to balance/make up for it?

AdminNightStrike December 16 2009 7:16 AM EST

I'm working on something to hopefully have done before the year is out.

And please don't follow this with 57897897897893 posts about a rolling bonus.

What about 57897897897892 posts?

And that would win the 300K pot I've got stashed. ;)

QBJohnnywas December 16 2009 8:39 AM EST

One of my chars is in the top ten of that list. The only reason it's retired is that the character didn't fit the strategy that I wanted to do.

Sad as it may be to see a char retired, no change to system or rolling bonus would have made the char fit what I was going to do.

It's tempting to see retired chars as some symptom of what's wrong with the game, but it isn't always the case.

Maybe not mate. But wouldn't a RB have allowed you to make the necessary changes to it, then carry on using it?

Whether it be hiring or firing minions (as long as you had the cash to purchase additional minions anyway, but that's a whole 'nother issue! :P)

QBJohnnywas December 16 2009 8:52 AM EST

In my case the retired team is a four minion team, each minion of equal size. The latest team has one minion taking up about 95% of the total MPR, that is a single minion with new minions added on. The rolling bonus would let me do that, but the current system lets me do that a lot quicker.

Unless the RB would let you grow at the rate the current NCBs do?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 16 2009 8:53 AM EST

It would have given you reason to use the RoE, if nothing else. ;)

QBJohnnywas December 16 2009 8:57 AM EST

Yes and no, I built the team around a tank with no tattoo originally. The TSA and bonus gears were (and still are) vital to the strat. In my case anyway, without a decent sized tattoo for the level I'm fighting at the TSA/Elven Cloak/Elven Boots gives me more Strength and Dex bonus than a ToA at my size would.

So the RoE wouldn't have helped much.

And the thought of firing three minions to start building a char up again, decimating what had been built originally makes me feel worse than retiring the character did.

QBOddBird December 16 2009 10:11 AM EST

Out of curiosity, Sick/Loch/Joel - how exactly are teams supposed to make ground then? In the current system, 9 hours of BA, everyone can hit it. There's little to no challenge bonus at the very top, so those players grow at exactly the same rate, with only very minor increases/decreases in rate.

Are you suggesting that the current method - playing for 2 years to catch up by 10% - is how it ought to be? Or that competition should advance in a different manner?

It's not that I think the whole game should be based on who can fight more - I disagree with that heartily - but if nobody misses a fight, it gets stagnant. I'm just seeing "DISAGREE" and no alternative. :P

I'm working on something to hopefully have done before the year is out.

NS, that's awesome news :D I look forward to seeing what you've got up your sleeve.

Wraithlin December 16 2009 10:13 AM EST

Oddbird you missed about 2-3 weeks of hardcore "please use the rolling bonus" threads just before you came back. That is what alot of the community wants to fix alot of the issues with this game. As it was asked not to go into that arguement all over again, I won't go into it further, just start looking at some threads from a month ago.

Lochnivar December 16 2009 10:27 AM EST

... I do get challenge bonuses btw, on average about 10%

I am also wary of doing something for the sake of doing something.

Let's say something is tweaked (regen, RB, whatever) it will then take about 6 months for us to fully understand the impacts of that change. If this is not done carefully there is a potential here to royally screw things up.
*note: if we notice a lot faster than 6 months then it probably isn't working fairly.

Do I have my own proposal?
Yes, I've made a few.
Do I think a regen change is a good idea?
No, not on your life.
Am I happy to wait and see what NS has up his sleeve?
Oh heck yeah!

Nah, he's been around long enough to have seen many of those threads.

to mis-quote Office Space:
"I wouldn't say he's been missing them Bob"

QBOddBird December 16 2009 11:58 AM EST

You can just ask NS, whom I have annoyed to the point of insanity about Rolling Bonus

I'm not speaking from an oblivious standpoint, I'm fully aware that the community wants it

Try my post history winkwinknudgenudge I've literally been supporting the RB for years

But yeah, since NS says he has something up his sleeve, I guess I'll be content to agree with you, Loch, that we should just wait to see what surprise he pops on us :)

I'm looking forward to it!
