Decay: Over 9000! (in General)

;)

First off, this isn't an Overpowered/Underpowered thread. I don't think there's any problems with Decay itself. It's fills a niche in CB, and is targetted maily versus the 500AC near immortals.

The older brother to the VB in dealing with high AC.

Decay is both very powerful (allowing you to defeat much larger targets than usual) and quite weak (it can't actually kill), and it's often hard to find the right balance with.

It can be used to it's full potentially cheaply, working at maximum at base XP cost. But this allows it to be countered by AMF more easily.

My only gripe with Decay (and for note, I'm currently a Decay user) is that its prevalence, and ease of use for a relavtively negligable cost, typically shoe horns you into haveing to train AMF.

This is especially noticable on Single Minions, who don't have the luxury to try a PL backed 20 HP front minion (usually wearing an AoI, which has the strategic drawback of stopping you use AS on your Team), and it also therefore locks you out of using any other EO other than AMF.

As if you use EC or DM, there is no protection you can get to Decay.

Nothing.

Maybe we should have some other options to use, to stop the near requirement of training a 100K AMF, just to have the only protection to Decay.

Maybe we could add this to the little used ToE. Allowing it to give a physical resistance to a magical 'decaying' attack.

Is it time to break Decays near untouchable status?

Nope,

There are other ways to stop decay aside from AMF.

GA works great.

A 20 hp blocker minion works perfectly also, esp with a PL minion to back up that 10 hp decay damage.

Single minions have many other problems aside from worrying about decay.

A single minion build is not a defensive setup. If you are not killing your opponent during or very soon after ranged rounds then you're not building your character well, and you will be losing to other teams decay or no decay.

Thing is, DM can counter GA and Single Minions can't use the 20HP PL trick (Nor can AS based multiple minion teams).

So (at the very least) Single Minions (and AS based teams) are required to train AMF over any other EO as the only way to get any protection from Decay.

There's always the Single Minion RBF - Evasion - AMF build.

Very Defensive. ;) Potentially the most Defensive Build in CB.

Even Jon stated single minions are problematic to run. Or something like that.

But decay does have multiple ways to defeat it. Unlike other things in CB that some think are just fine.

I also look at decay as a main foil to DM.

DM is very powerful. Almost too powerful but not quite. Decay is a huge foil to DM and all the goodness DM givens. IF you can make it to melee vs a DM character (who is not RoS), you will have a nice counter and nice attack. Provided s/he does not recounter with a 20 hp blocker or GA.

Foils are great. Some things have almost no foils and are not great.

Nah, he stated they were boring to run.

Sure it does.

Just Single Minions have access to only 1 of those, and it's quite limitating.

Just as there is at least 1 foil for other things some people think are overpowered. But hardly anyone uses to effect.

i would love to see some capabilities added to items that only work with a single minion team and after playing a single minion for so much of cb i do feel they need some type of lovin'.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] February 11 2010 11:40 AM EST

what i remember jon stating is that the whole game being dominated by single minions made for a boring game. ; )
