I'm offering up 2 Character slots... (in General)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 5:02 AM EDT

Possibly three, after my current NCB ends, to highlight the flaws with the current reward system.

I'm jaded with every single BA being so important in a Bonus run.
I'm jaded by having to wait a week to store up 1600 BA and start on XP time before starting a bonus run.
I'm jaded with having to find someone to purposely gimp a larger character to maximise my growth to keep up with my peers who are doing the same.
I'm jaded with coming across characters 4 times my size, with tiny scores, that I have no chance of realistically beating.

So, I'm finally getting round to setting up some of my old, larger characters, that I am going to purposely 'gimp' and name to the community, so everyone can hit these soft targets on new Bonus run or Tournaments.

To start, I'm going to train nothing by HP on them, and use a small lesser tattoo for a small offense. Leading to (hopefully) stalemates on tiny characters (to discourage Score getting so low), but leaving them very vulnerable to Decay.

The two characters are;

The One UC
Greneral Grevious

Tell everyone, new players especially, and hit them hard. And if anyone has a spare character slot, and an old retired large character, please consider adding them to the pool. If I have the cash, I'll even pay to unretire them for you.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 23 2010 11:08 AM EDT

Carl Carlson is the best setup for this I've found, easy to completely gimp, and capable of hitting 3m score chars.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 11:20 AM EDT

Yeah, if scores drop too low, I was considering DD and a MGS.

But I'd rather have something more fire and forget, than something I need to set up specifically for a new team to make us of.

AdminJonathan March 23 2010 6:42 PM EDT

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?" I guess that's rational.

Why aren't the characters "4 times your size, with tiny scores" getting auto-retired? Should we increase the score:pr ratio to avoid being retired (currently 0.25 of PR iirc)?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 23 2010 6:52 PM EDT

^ who dat? ; )

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 6:53 PM EDT

Hi Jon! :D

I'll see if I can dig out the old thread, it has some examples in it.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 6:57 PM EDT

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?" I guess that's rational.

If only I could fight my own gimped characters. ;)

But it's not really about joining anyone, I never asked for a large character to be gimped at the start of my current NCB to inflate my growth (but I did follow with the whole 1600 BA start at XP time thing. But then we start to get into the line of being forced into 'questionable' gameplay, or fully utilising existing strategy)

I just don't enjoy the low game any more, and feel frustrated by (for example only) seeing a character with less fights than me having twice my MPR. And knowing my only option is to jack it all in, and try to brave the low game again.

After waiitng a week storing up 1600 BA and waiting for XP time.

It's just not fun. As subjective as fun is...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 7:00 PM EDT

"Teams like this;

Eremite

Score 564,302
Power 2,123,964
MPR 2,084,840

That score is well below half his MPR. This team should be auto retired, shoudn't it?"

Ah, it's 25% of PR for auto retiring.

I feel that's a little too low. When you're fighting up (as you should be) your MPR/PR is going to be lower than your score. As such, it will be nearly impossible for a team of less than 500K MPR beating one with over 2M.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 7:02 PM EDT

To make sure I've not boobed, I've just inspected Eremite;

Score 590,448
Power 2,673,411
MPR 2,054,832

That's a score of 22% of PR isn't it? But he's not retired yet.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 23 2010 7:08 PM EDT

Retiring more chars won't solve the issue of a dearth of characters for low level fighters. No want wants to fight a gimped char, there are just too few targets in the early game for the naked (or broke in the case of NUB's) chars.

NW-PR is actually at fault here, but I've said enough about that.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 7:10 PM EDT

There are a load of characters Nov.

Problem is, most are actually too hard to fight, due to thier scores being sucked low over the years.

There's not enough, shall we say, equivalently powerful, low level targets.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 7:12 PM EDT

And still, it wouldn't solve the purposly gimping a large character to give someone massively inflated rewards to boost thier Bonus Run, either.

That, and the absolute importance of making every BA count for the most it can during a bonus run will still be around.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 23 2010 7:17 PM EDT

So don't run a bonus char... I realize you've got some attention span issues but chronic NCB'ers shouldn't complain!

Personally I liked the idea of score naturally trending towards PR. However I don't think even that will simulate the effect having fighting chars with scores double their PR can do for a challenge bonus.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 7:29 PM EDT

Give me a rolling bonus and I'll dust out my 1st Jan 2005 Character and never change. ;)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 23 2010 7:48 PM EDT

So don't run a bonus char

new players have no choice in the matter and the problems described may contribute to our retention issues.

if we can get our mailer daemon working, we would know for sure though!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 23 2010 9:02 PM EDT

As an aside (I don't really want to derail my own thread);
I realize you've got some attention span issues but chronic NCB'ers shouldn't complain!

Take a look at my NCB The Torn, and Death Eaters. Similiar battles, yet one is twice the MPR of the other.

What options does CB give me to competitively catch up?

Nothing but;

"Tough GL, you fumbled this run, try again".

Cronic NCBer I might be, but it's the only option (bar buying a larger character, which isn't really playing) CB gives me.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 23 2010 9:11 PM EDT

nice to know I'm not playing

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] March 24 2010 1:59 AM EDT

Don't be pedantic. You know what I mean.

I could go out and buy Dag (obviously if you wanted to sell, and I had enough money), and surpass all my peers.

But I've not 'played' CB to do so. Someone else did for me.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 24 2010 4:24 AM EDT

Thanks Kef! That was the thread I was thinking of!

Linked form that thread;

Score 41,504
Power 5,633,711
MPR 4,145,870

AdminNightStrike March 24 2010 2:29 PM EDT

NW-PR is actually at fault here, but I've said enough about that.

No, tournaments are greatly at fault. I will fix that shortly.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 24 2010 2:33 PM EDT

ns, does the fix just keep it from happening in the future or does it also repair the damage already done? either way is good, but one is better! ; )

AdminNightStrike March 24 2010 2:41 PM EDT

The latter is a lot harder, if not impossible.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 24 2010 2:53 PM EDT

score recovery towards pr over a longish period of time would fit the bill, as long as it didn't happen fast enough to be exploited?

or even a one-time reset of score to pr after the fix is in?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 25 2010 9:19 AM EDT

I see there's a couple of teams hitting my guys. ;)

How's the rewards? Do I need to up thier Score at all to get you better rewards from fighting them?
