Early game! (in General)

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] January 19 2010 8:01 AM EST

With all the old non-used characters it has gotten quite difficult in the early game, to find targets (100k mpr and lower). If i was a nub i would not of made it out. Might want to take a look at it?

sebidach [The Forgehood] January 19 2010 8:08 AM EST

Yes, faced that too. But this seems to happen at a large portion of the score scale. There are characters with some million MPR and less than one million score, which gets annoying if one aims for 100% challenge bonus.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 19 2010 8:52 AM EST

It's harder, when you get the large MPR inactive character, who's scores have been lowered, that make up the majority of the 'tier' you're at.

Being so large, they are very difficult to beat, even if they're now using outdated strats or items (maybe the proper items were moved onto a new NCB...), and have a score in the range you're fighting at.

QBRanger January 19 2010 9:01 AM EST

Yes,

It is one reason I do not like to play tourneys that do not have starting xp.

The beginning is very time consuming.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 19 2010 9:06 AM EST

I tend to spend a lot of my time down here in the starting Ranks. ;)

TrueDevil [AAA] January 19 2010 10:33 AM EST

Also don't forget about Tourney characters destroying other inactive / active character scores. I decided to join the tourney very late few days ago, and my score was 1, but with 35 mil starting exp, I managed to destroy some inactive charas (and a few semi-active ones) score. If this keeps happening, soon we will have no target at all..

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] January 19 2010 10:35 AM EST

And it's not that i'm using a non-effective strat. Heck I"m using a strat that sum may deem overpowered.

My answer to the early game... I sent the rest of em out to folks who clicked my ref link.

Wraithlin January 19 2010 11:53 AM EST

How about a 10% increase in score at midnight every night.

1) only if your score is less than your PR.
2) only if you had no battles fought during that 24 hour period.

would slowly generate score back up for all those inactives so that new characters can get some points.

the 10% could be adjusted of course.

Your answer to the early game has been the same for about a year now at least. Things have changed.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 19 2010 12:15 PM EST

i am not sure if this would help or hurt the issue, but the n*b bonus needs to likely be lowered and extended once again.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 19 2010 12:39 PM EST

Dude, Bonus changes (even a RB) wouldn't help matter much here.

The low game would still be a dificult slog, due to the accumulation of low score high MPR, inactive, teams.

Maybe the suggestion above, about regaining a little score each day, until your at your MPR would work?

I know it's generating 'extra' score, so maybe trying this into inacctive characters only. Or something like innacive characters can't lose score (like retired ones?).

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 19 2010 1:15 PM EST

the only reason i thought it might make it better is by halving the progression, then people are in any given range twice as long. if we do also get some new growth the two together might do the trick! ; )

AdminShade January 19 2010 1:30 PM EST

Wraithlin: who's midnight?

QBRanger January 19 2010 2:00 PM EST

Best to do things like that at cache flush.
If they are to be done at all.

Wraithlin January 20 2010 5:49 AM EST

Shade: Unless I'm mistaken, any reference to time in an online game is always assumed to be in the same timezone as the game is set to.

But with the cache flush actually seems a better idea.

Newlin [SeeD] January 22 2010 7:39 PM EST

What if you had a few player maintained characters in the lower ranks that were able to maintain a good score with little effort, yet be easily beaten by starting characters?

It would probably make little difference, but it might help. Just an idea though.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 22 2010 7:53 PM EST

i have suggested that before as well and i think there are some character banks but they have to be retired due to the character limit. tourney prizes could use gear on them and such.

i would love to see some of the better strategists in game be able to outfit them and set them up so that they were a challenge to beat but doable at a lower mpr level.

Newlin [SeeD] January 22 2010 8:05 PM EST

I would personally be willing to help with something like that, because I like the aspect of trying out many different strategies.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 23 2010 4:37 AM EST

We could also (but this was nearly universally opposed! :P) get a nice list of 'easy' targets up on the Wiki, for people to check. ;)

Really, anything that makes the organisation of fightlists more fun.

Vicious Cat January 23 2010 5:19 AM EST

Wraiths idea seems reasonably sound. Maybe try to maintain 'bands' of scores with a certain percentage in each, using inactive chars to make up the numbers?
That way the higher MPRs will stay where they belong.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 27 2010 3:47 AM EST

OK, this is getting a tad silly now.

I'm currently 14K MPR, and trying to fight up a little, but some of the targets in my 'score' area are like 40K MPR, with crap scores just above half thier MPR...

I've no hope of beating them, and they just stagnate and clutter up the low levels.

Can we please change something about this?

TrueDevil [AAA] January 27 2010 4:05 AM EST

Well, one of the easiest and simple fix is to make a lower score reduction (it's been done before). I think it's quite ridiculous right now that one or two lose from someone with lower score could bring down your 2-4 weeks work of climbing in score.

Also, please remove the score reduction by untraining... it's pretty lame IMO.

Pwned January 27 2010 4:05 AM EST

I agree this is annoying

Shark January 27 2010 4:43 AM EST

they used to auto retire characters that their score was so far below their PR that they were CB fodder.

also used the "John Smith Smart Guy" tax on characters who were/are so ill equipped that they had such a negative CBD deficit attached to them that they couldn't play or resurrect them.

As most of us aren't the flavor of the day, resident, just joined this morning and I know everything already before I joined NUB experts on CB...I hear ya and too bad most of this stuff falls on deaf ears and goes unnoticed.

{WW]Nayab [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 27 2010 6:36 AM EST

Test fighting some of the guys in my score area for 100% CB, yep no problem, hmm i lose to him, inspect, OMG 3mil MPR.

Its a problem and really really annoying.
(my MPR is around 475k and my score is between 1-1.5mil.)

I'm afraid it's worse then that even, and I'm actually a bit lower then your score area.
