Battlefield rewards might not be such a bad idea. Imagine:
Demigod defeated FuerGrissa ost Drauka and jacked his freakishly large bow. :)

Nah I was just. Thinking what if the Gods had something better to do than just watch us peons fight it out and rewards us for entertaining them?
The Random Drops could be explained as finding it on the Battlefield.
