NCB or revive an old character? (in General)

Fishead July 1 2010 1:15 AM EDT

So... I stopped playing CB for 5 years and just stared up again. What makes the most sense?

A) Start a new character and earn the NCB.
B) Use my old unretired character 40,000 MPR.
c) Ask to unretire my 200000 MPR character.

NCB!

What gear have you got left?

Sickone July 1 2010 1:19 AM EDT

If you have no characters above at least 2 mil, preferably 3+ mil MPR, there's absolutely no question, start a NCB.
You should be able to easily go past 2 mil MPR by the end of 6 months with a NCB even if you miss quite a lot of BA, buy none, and suck at picking targets.

I gave everything away when I stopped playing but started collecting some good stuff again. It looks like starting a new character is the way to go. Thanks for the advice.

Let us know what you intend to run... might have some welcome home presents

Fishead July 1 2010 2:33 AM EDT

I was working on a tank, archer enchanter with a familiar and another enchanter years ago.

My new character is a single archer. I'll add minions in the near future, starting with an enchanter with a steel familiar and ab shield.

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] July 1 2010 2:36 AM EDT

Just so you know, single archer is very expensive.

Fishead July 1 2010 2:53 AM EDT

I was given the gift of an Elbow. Couldn't resist putting it to use, so I have an archer now. I was originally using my NCB to build up a familiar, but it seems it will now be my main character.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] July 1 2010 7:30 AM EDT

with an ncb, in order to get the highest mpr you can it is recommended to put all cash rewards into buying ba during bonus xp time. with an archer you need to constantly upgrade your elb. you really cannot do both in the same 6 month run and will likely only be frustrated at the end unless you are okay with doing multiple ncb runs to get a solid archer.

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 1 2010 8:17 AM EDT

Dudemus is right bro Archers are very expensive. If you truly want to go that route be mentally prepared for multiple NCB runs.

1.5/6 months gone, almost 409k MPR, 530 average daily BA use (out of I suppose around 640 average natural regen so far), shaky climb with at least one noticeable sump... eh, you MIGHT still make it close to or even slightly above 2 mil MPR if you joined a clan ASAP and fought mostly clan targets (even a shabby clan that barely gets 10%, when combined with the hidden 5% against-clanners bonus should be enough to put you over the limit).

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 1 2010 12:44 PM EDT

It's completely possible to run an Archer with nothing but earnings, your target list is just going to be small.

Train Nothing but Arch HP and STR and keep dex just big enough to hit 20 dex minions and only up the plus on your ELB to about +30 while dumping every other cent into weapon damage.

I ran this in a tourney and found it quite capable, the trick is making sure you've got a pair of Belegs and an HoC

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] July 1 2010 12:50 PM EDT

the point nov though is that you cannot do that and also buy ba during bonus xp times. which means you will likely need to make another ncb run in the future focused on mpr.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 1 2010 1:04 PM EDT

Multiple runs are the norm at this point, at least among most of the folks I've seen getting anywhere with the NCB.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] July 1 2010 1:10 PM EDT

either that or mega usd infusion. i just want fishead to understand that though up front.

a single mage or enchanter with familiar could go farther though on one run and perhaps be more manageable and fun for one returning after a long hiatus. remember he won't have the knowledge of the game that you brought to the last tourney.

i often fear that people will come back, choose a very difficult path and give up. i try to help get people to stick around as much as possible!

if you do go archer, fishead, don't be shy about asking for help! ; )

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 1 2010 1:18 PM EDT

fair enough... these days I'm hesitant in suggesting the setups I think are best for growth since they're often hard to run and require very selective fightlists...

DM Shotgun FTW!

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] July 1 2010 2:31 PM EDT

With a no BA buy, 3M MPR is quite, and I stress *QUITE* possible.

Fishead July 1 2010 8:15 PM EDT

I have a thing for 4 minion teams with 2 tanks. I like to buy cool weapons and armor. Maybe not the best strat to be at the top, but fun for me. Seems like down where I am there's not much action. Maybe I just need to join a clan, but I rarely get attacked.

Womp July 1 2010 8:26 PM EDT

I'm at about 1.5mil score, in a clan, and afaik I haven't been attacked in the last 24 hours.
Stagnant early game is stagnant.
