Forging: A Skill (in General)

Left field idea here (and I totally admit I don't have hardly any Forging experience!), but how about changing Forging, and having your effeciency tied to a Skill.

Instead of MPR, it's based off of a trainable skill (that can be trained as many minions as you want, and all stack).

The trade off would be that succesful Forging gives you XP. At some determined amount.

Giving you the option to improve your character by fighting, or forging, wherever your preference lay.

Forging would only grant XP, and cash you make would come from either upping your own gear, or seeling your services to others.

I heard that CB's server runs on the tears of the forgers what would we do then?

Just kidding. I don't forge myself but for those who do I think any sort of buff would be welcome.

I guess I could see forging give xp to some extent and it would add another "variable" so to speak to an already nother way to play the game. You could actually use XP to upgrade your forging level, which shouldn't increase MPR or power, obviously, but the higher forging level the more proficcient you would be so you could actually make a char with a forging uhh "goal" and benefit from forging more then others. You could use forging for money and xp besides just fighting. neat ideal

The Forging Bonus that Forgers have now started off as a Forging Skill Idea.

Might I ask why the Skill idea was dropped?

It wasn't dropped it per se but rather it changed into the Bonus since it would be a much easier here and now implementation.

the only problem i see with forging is that it is way too complicated.

I looked at it just enough to figure out that it was more than I cared to deal with, battling is far easier and more fun. Why would I make myself learn something that isn't fun and hard?

I think the best thing to do with forging would be to make it a trained skill, but it's still used with fighting teams, so it's a tradeoff to doing something in battle.

Then what you do is select 1 item to be forged, everytime you train minions with the forging skill they automatically work on that item you have selected, very similar to the way Tattoos work. This way you are basically turning trained EXP into NW.

The actual values for how much NW you give per EXP trained in relation to skill level and whether the skill points you train add as you train them or not until the next training can all be worked out if this idea actually flies.

But there's my two cents.

when this was brought up before, jon said that forging was never meant to be an alternate play style. i wonder if ns feels the same?

That's what it has evolved into, though. Funny how things change over the course of the game's lifespan :) there's pretty much no way to compete at the top in 6/20 BA while spending part of it on forging, no matter how good a strategian you are, because you'll be constantly falling behind. I don't know that Jon was counting on that.
