Time to change CB Layout? (in General)

I'm quite partial to the layout that is Ankou's userpic. Anyone else agree?

i think we just recently finished (if that even) the re-theming that was started here!

i also seem to remember it being stated that any new themes would need to be done client side. i don't have the link for that, sorry.

So 'recent' is four years ago? Does that seems a little old to anyone else? For websites at least.

For my user pic, I was just playing on Photoshop. It was part of one of those game improvement threads. I think it was Demi who also made something, looked like a CB/Coke mix. What I made took much longer and the thread died before I got finished. I'm still not done with it, but it looks cool. Link

If 'themes' have to be client side, then what level of visual manipulation can happen server side? One of the biggest things that I remember being stated for player retention (not to beat a dead horse a little more) was to make everything look pretty, not like the best game ever designed on MS excel. If we have to have client side themes, and then new players are not going to use them, certainly not when the just find the game, thus not helping retention at all, regardless of how epic and awesome the themes may be.

I still say it looked like a baseball bat...

I don't know what it looked like, but it was a fine attempt at a needed change.

Yup... too flashy. Make CB look like a spread sheet or a basic word doc. so my boss won't notice I'm playing when he walks by.

so to kick a different horse, Why were the themes killed in the first place? I know the notepad theme was quite popular in the business environment, but if the entire game was always like that, it wouldn't attract many new people.

And the themes died because they weren't compatible following a change. I'm not sure why finding a solution wasn't a priority.

if i am not mistaken, which is a rare thing indeed, i believe the change was made to make it easier for client-side themes thus making it possible for those that really want to skin their cb to do so.

So what would it take to bring them back?

I miss themes! :(

the Google theme was my favorite from CB1, no one at the office understood what I was doing all day on google and they didnt want a stupid answer to a stupid question :P haha

Hmmm well maybe just maybe......you just have to use the new CSS instead of the old CSS. The new one is fairly versatile. Just, it doesn't apply to every page. That's the main problem. There is a fancy Firefox add on that might help. The real kicker is that you would need to update your themes as things change on CB thr upkeep is on you.
