What can we do? (in General)

I have been wondering to what extent can we *actually* change CB? I ask this because I feel that knowing exactly what we can do may help in directing positive change. So, I would like to know on a purely 'what is possible' level:

What is the extent of Admin Privileges? What Can you change?

What kinds of things, anything, can be changed w/o NS or Jon?

If something needs to be coded, who is able to do that?

Who has to approve of code based changes? (both large and small)

Who can implement code changes? (both large and small)

Everything else aside, if we wanted to remove an item or change the shop names, who could do this?

Who would have to authorize in order for this to happen?

I know Jon and NS have physical and/or logical access to the server, does anyone else?

If Jon decided to give more people root access/full admin, either by opening up to more people or passing the torch, Who could step up to the plate?

The N*B as well as the Tutorial have been called into question with some great ideas on how to change them for the better but if NS is the only one able to code, I doubt it will happen. Ever. This game could also be completely filled with code monkeys but if only one person can implement large scale changes, it wont happen, no matter how good an idea it is.

Cosmetic I know for sure.

If something needs to be coded, who is able to do that?

So far outside of Jon and NS I have Seen Verifex and Lamuness do some coding for the game.

Who has to approve of code based changes? (both large and small)

Jon and NS

Who can implement code changes? (both large and small)

Large: Jon and NS. SMall: Verifex and Lamuness, if I remember right a few of the other Admins have done a bit of coding and add-ons for the game.

Everything else aside, if we wanted to remove an item or change the shop names, who could do this?

NS I know for sure, maybe Verifex as well.

Who would have to authorize in order for this to happen?

Mid Level Stuff I know NS for Sure, Hard Coding on the Backbone of the Game is still Jon only as far as I know.

I know Jon and NS have physical and/or logical access to the server, does anyone else?

I am unsure but I would guess Verifex might and to a lesser extent all of the Admins.

I hope this helps some bro. :-)

PS: Do note that this is only stuff that I have found out in chat or seen in the process of.....Verifex: Fight Feed/Cosmetic Changes on the site, Lamuness: TimeStamps in Chat for your Timezone(100papercuts project), Admin Bartjan: The Botcheck Trainer.

I was just about to make a post of this. I think all are valid questions and personally I think the main focus should be making the game more visually appealing to the average gamer as a interface change is a must. First of all.

Well, these questions were aimed at finding out, as the title states: What can we do?

I was told at every turn that we were all being bottle-necked on out ideas because there is just not enough movers and shakers. We could have all the ideas in the world, but if only one person can implement and OK them, we won't get anywhere. So, this thread was an attempt to find out who could do what so that we may focus out attention on the things that are currently possible to achieve. But, unless Z is wrong, anything but cosmetic changes needs some major clearance and only a few people can even do it.

I believe Z is correct for the most part. Didn't Pixel Sage also have access, and a few others?

I took from this that anything worth our time to do, and anything that even has a chance to save this game requires NS and/or Jon to be a big part of. This was the main reason I proposed to write a formal proposal for ideas in the other thread. Because they HALVE to be a part, lets try to convince them in the best way possible.

The inherent problem lies in the fact that any changes would require many hours of coding for each minor improvement/change. Also, the Major changes would require multiple coders spending many more hours to facilitate the new ideas generated...that's assuming that Jon/NS actually like the idea and are willing to make the changes. Historically that's a GIANT assumption, in fact it's so giant I would measure it in Astronomical Units. We used to have a MASSIVE list called the FORS list. It was a list of frequently offered retarded suggestions. for the life of me I cant find it.

Everyone knows CB might be dying, hate to admit it...but its true. There will always be the few that hold on to the last breath. Maybe that's us. Games do that. Games are like goldfish. sometimes they live forever, sometimes they suddenly die. Sometimes someone drops a beer in the tank and murders our pet goldfish.

I've seen soo many suggestion posts since I started playing back in the day when CB1 just went live, that my eyes may literally bleed if i read another. dang, that was a long long time ago. Although the game it's self remains much the same. alot of items, skills, and features are different. very few seem to have come from suggestions, most just came from "above." That may have changed recently, I'm not sure...I almost never click on suggestion posts anymore.

Then! on top of it all you would need to advertise. Which costs money. People are just going to randomly start playing because something changed...how would they know unless someone told them?

plan->implement->execute

basically the Benefactors would have to weigh the pros and cons for investing time in money into a game that's by internet terms, a grandfather. You would have to figure out how to compete with all the chinese micro transaction browser games to keep populations growing. That in itself is a tall order, specially for a text based game.

What I would like to see happen is we go farther than just a suggestion thread and I have been pushing this recently. I have also been looking into how much it'd cost us to get a little banner time in on some other sites.
