:P
But it's true. ;)
I've just won a RoBF from the auctioneer. Origianlly I held the highest bid with a max of $500,000. Other bids had pushed it up to this limit, but hadn't beaten it.
Wary of sniping (how I hate that facet...) I decided to up my total from $500,000 to $750,000.
In response, with no need to do so, Mr Chairman upped my current bid from $500,000 to $500,582.
The cheek! :P

Must be the tax for that item?
I'm Mr Chairman's biggest fan right now. There is good money to be made in buying, disenchanting and then baiting him to bid on base items in short auctions :)
The extra money was because the current bid was below the minimum needed for the next highest bid after the highest one someone else bid. When you increased it, it automatically raised it to the minimum bid.

I was under the impression that if you increase you max, you'll outbid yourself every time. Is that not the case? Nat makes it sound like it only happens if you're below the min.
I'm not fussed, but in all seriousness increasing your max should never increase your current bid.
I should, and could, have won that auction at the original value of $500,000.

I've secretly stolen the $582 from Mr. Chairman when nobody was looking. Perhaps you will notice it being back in your purse ;p
