When will melee become viable (in General)

Is this in the works or will it never happen? Can i get a tank who'll win in long battles or will it always be a quick range game?

But Novice's ability to overpower people is unique: He's in the elite 6+ mil MPR category. Pretty much anyone else trying that stunt will get squashed. Even Zen's character, which probably had more than Novice's $828,033,829 NW, would have had a problem without the tattoo.

On an unrelated note... when's he going to hire a 2nd minion?

Erza Scarlet, my single minion tank, is melee only with extremely low NW. It does okay.
It'll be a lot better once I can afford to put a weapon bigger than 8M NW on there, though. xD

My char is also melee only.

Mine could be since it does last a good 20 rounds or so... but I do not have a melee weapon large enough ^_^ You just need to focus on lasting 10+ rounds

Do you specifically want a tank for melee, or are you talking about any melee? my character is right at your size and also operates only in melee (except for the free ranged HoC shot) and I'm having moderate success (7 person fightlist, challenge bonuses ranging from 40-70%)

How much GA? I consider it a great ranged weapon.

Melee as in physical and not DD. Someone who uses a weapon as their main damage in melee.

brutal... only one person finished due to an extra harsh rule...
but there were actually targets for a dex heavy melee tank all the way up... not great ones maybe, but targets none the less.

Could we have a physical melee only tourney? Email me please if that happens I wouldnt want to miss that.

in the eight years i have been playing it has always been pretty common knowledge that melee weapons need nw to compete. there are more economical choices.

going melee as an economical choice will always be weaker than melee with nw and most other economical choices. it would be virtually impossible to balance it any other way as far as i can see.

Melee works at higher level, but you need VA, a trollskin and or lots of HP. Tattoo isn't necessary providing your damage dealer can last.

You do need big enough weapons though.

I consider my team a melee based team, despite the archery and bow. They dont win me many battles. And I can and have run without a tattoo, without losing too many off the fighting.

Best part is i can change that tattoo to just about anything and have the same fightlist as I do now Goes to show that I have a solid strat backed by an robf

I"m just just as versatile if not even more so. Heck, I'm setup right now where I could switch any of my weapons and gain a whole new set of targets for every day of the week.

Completely agree, although some of what you said was kind of self explanatory. For example if this topic was about winning in ranged the equivalent would be to train fireball lol ;p.


Surprisingly not as large as you would think with items like the shield of capacity out there. But yes other then that you need very large weapons for melee to work. Especially in the +, seems everyone and there mom has a pair of DB's that are larger than 150.

If Zen had his money in a BoNE instead of Elbow, and BL instead of archery, he'd be doing like 3x damage per hit. SCARY!

might be self explanatory to some, but it's surprising how many people don't get their heads around the basics.

A thought: If your tank can last a long time then the weapons don't need to be HUGE, just big enough. The more damage you can survive the more you can dish out.

Imagine if Zen could live till melee, 20M damage a round would be awesome, lol.

3x his damage wouldn't be 20 mil a round. It would be 60 mil a round before reductions. He had already passed the 20 mil a round mark in ranged.

For my character though, I just cant seem to make it work. The two enchanters and a tank would seem the logical setup to success but to no avail.

AC, you need AC, maybe even PL, probably SS, you can live to melee, it's possible.

Melee isn't just for tanks anyways. Decay mages + weapon slinging enchanters FTW :)

I still can, btw. Most RBF users I talk to only need it for one or two people on their list.

When I dropped RoBF it made me stalemate against 2 people I could previously beat. But my new tat let me add 2 new people.

8 million GA does that. Now let's see Dudemus strip the RoBF and fight. :)
