Mondays (in Off-topic)

Maybe I dont like Mondays or the other way around, but today....

I get to work 15minutes late to work, which is fine. I know I have all day to get the job done. My boss calls in this fly by night carpenter(Tom) who is an alright guy, until he starts doing things his way. Now we all know there is more than one way to get something done but you cant do something two ways and expect it to be bang on right.

So all morning Im telling this fella 'this is how I want it done' and when Im saying this I mean this is how my boss wants it done. We are carpenters and to make it worst the client is a carpenter(I dont know him, but still it has to be done right). So Tommy boy here starts nailing off shingles, and I start to follow suit and follow behind him. From the get-go I lose it because nothing is lining up, the rows of shingles looks like slithering snakes. Im asking him why did I just spend all this time laying lines down on a roof to make it straight? what was the point? he was more concerned with the edges and keys, edges are what they are, and if they need to be trimmed, not a problem it can be done but not at the expense of the entire roof.

So rather than try to get someone to listen to what ive been saying not hear me talk, I just grabbed my work pouch and left, called the boss told him the roof will get done and im going to get a haircut. I told him why and he replied with 'why didnt you just hit him?' I told him thats not my job to physically hit someone to straighten them out, to which he replied 'then send him home if he wont listen'. I again said not my job and its easier to just take the day off myself and let it get done.

Now 90mins later here I am with a new haircut and a coffee ranting, i still dont care, itll get done. it just pisses me off when we get old and stuck in our ways. maybe im getting old and im the problem I dont know, what i do know is that I do a damn good job and have never had call backs on my work that has a warranty. and I have to put up with this crap.

Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians?

pretty much AK. but to the extent of doing it his way or the highway despite previous reminders. I dont get mad and throw stuff and get into fights I just leave, an assault charge wont change anything.

I guess I just take my job too seriously, because face it, if you are going to do something, do it right or dont do it at all.

It's incredibly sad that "why didn't you just hit him" was serious advice. But I'm left wondering why you didn't heed the part about "send him home if he wont listen." If you have the ability to pull him from the job when he isn't cutting it, do it. But if your boss ever again puts "hit him" before "send him home," it's time to find a new boss.

Surely that was said in jest. "Oh, he's being a jerk eh, why didn't you just clock the sucker?" kind of thing.

Looks like someone has a case of the mondays.

Someone needed to say it, I'm surprised no one did before me.

in more thought, I think that Im not assertive enough in my role as lead, but i find it pointless/useless to argue. and if I was to get mad I wouldnt punch him, it would be done with the claw of a hammer and a down swing.

in other news very geek, a friend just left and we had just spent the evening playing magic cards with all his free 30card packs x6
