Why not now make item namings permanent? (in General)

QBRanger May 27 2011 7:28 PM EDT

With a declining player base, perhaps this could generate some money for Jon and NS and perhaps they can devote more time to the game.

Just a thought.

I personally would make any item with more than 8 months in the naming permanent as a thanks to those supporting the game.

Wouldn't this result in less cash going to the devs over the long term?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 27 2011 7:33 PM EDT

Sorry but how exactly is eliminating a regular revenue stream good for the game?

Unappreciated Misnomer May 27 2011 7:46 PM EDT

Reoccurring revenue is fine if there is reoccurring updates. CB and teh devs are entitled to some bonus for their efforts( I have to believe there are efforts despite being left out of the loop).

But I must derail and compare this to either owning a ps3 or xbox 360. Im a ps3 kinda guy and Im going for the permanent alternative.

Servers are not free to maintain, you know ?
Even with absolutely no changes, and only volunteer-based moderation and administration, SOME amount of money must go to simply keeping the game online.

well the most profitable games in this sort of genre have to be zyngas (sp?) on facebook etc so you have to look there for idea .. rolling supportership (points thing) etc .. that alone would start getting rid of ingame cbd and benefiting the game

*ducks*

*quack

This option could work on a 2 tier system. Have the permanent bonus not nearly as good as an annual one.

Yea, look how well their network is going.

Permanent item namings were a thing of CB1. That went away in CB2 because it's the only source of regular income to pay the server bills.

QBRanger May 28 2011 10:27 AM EDT

I just thought due to the decrease of named items, at least I have noticed a decrease but I may be wrong.

Perhaps permanent item naming would make more people likely to name items. Just my thought.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] May 28 2011 12:31 PM EDT

ranger brings up a very valid question, how steady of an income stream is it if no one is naming their items?

if you take a look at the most active players, i used 1 week clan mvp's, and check out the top 20 or so you will see an amazing amount of unnamed items.

i don't know what the numbers are, but is it truly better to have say 500 named items that you make 5 bucks each year or several thousand that you make more off of.

for that reason i would suggest charging more for permanent namings and having both options still available with perhaps lowering the cost of annual ones.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] May 28 2011 12:33 PM EDT

furthermore, even permanent names can still be an income stream if we have enough new items coming out that we will want to upgrade to or if it was easier to change strategies! ; )

QBRanger May 28 2011 12:50 PM EDT

Or have it as follows:

5 bucks for 1 year
10 bucks permanent.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] May 28 2011 1:21 PM EDT

I think it could work if it were 2 namings 1 year each for $5 (current) and then 1 naming permanent for $10. That's putting 4 years worth into the naming.
