cb has an identity crisis! (in General)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] July 10 2011 11:04 PM EDT

recently i was describing cb to yet another friend and i tried something new. instead of describing as a mmorpg or strategy rpg as is on our login page, i described it as a text-based pvp game. the person showed more interest than i have gotten in ages from describing the game and i was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were on the matter as in my opinion the game is much more pvp than it is rpg.

here is the text from our log in page:

The critics rave!
I spent months searching for a multiplayer game I could actually play for more than 2 days without puking from boredom, and this is the only one that passed the test.

I think the true measure of something on the internet is simply how many things it's better than. For Carnage Blender, that's a lot! Over the years, fun and original sites have been culled from the flock faster than you can say "dot com." [Independent] sites like Carnage Blender are pretty much the only ones worth visiting any more.

when i think of an rpg, i automatically think of things like quests, travel, wandering mobs and npc's as well as true crafting. when i hear the words pvp, i think of strategy, fighting others, rankings, gear driven changes and competitiveness. i feel we are much more about pvp here than rpg.

i do not know if it would help retention any to describe the game more accurately, but it should be easy to try!

text based pvp is a very good way to describe this.

Heh, i'd totally forgotten this was supposed to be an RPG XD.

Text based pvp game is absolutely accurate.
I reckon marketing it as such would indeed do more than the current marketing system.

Mobile PvP RPG: thousands of fights a day, no loading screens

is the current one liner I've got approved on reddit, it's worked well for me. PvP alone isn't quite descriptive enough for my tastes.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] July 10 2011 11:20 PM EDT

I usually refer it to a text based strategy game. That's just how I explain it to my friends.

Lord Bob July 10 2011 11:46 PM EDT

i described it as a text-based pvp game.
Bob approves.

Maybe lengthen it to text based PvP strategy game.

One funny note. I never would have joined if it was described to me as a text based pvp game lol.

Text-based PvP definitely fits the bill in my opinion and will be how I describe it from now on. I always just described it a text-based browser game, which is the same way I've been describing games like this, Mechg, KoL, and AlienAA(if someone knows any of the three games I just named I will be shocked) for the last 10 years or so. Maybe its about time I finally get on board with another term.

I approve

^ Forgot to throw in the Strategy after the PvP.. So yeah Text-based PvP Strategy Game
