i thought you guys WERE playing, and gun was the dm
Yeah.. that ended a while ago. We all died gloriously, except for Tasha, she was taken away to have strange things done to her.
I still wish I had remained hidden and looted all the corpses that day and let the game end that way.. oh well, maybe next time.

I'll play if you guys do. Just as long as I don't have to be the DM...
Oh crap. I forgot. I only like playing with 1.0 Gary Gygax. :(
I'll give it another whirl..I don't think I have enough xp to DM..but i'll play again
The problem with DnD seems to be getting everyone together to actually play. I'm in, but since it's been a problem before, I see it as a potential problem if it happens too.

I've played an ongoing forum version where decisions are made by vote over a period of hours and even days. That way its not necessary to have everyone on at once.

There was an expectation that a player will post at least once every 24 hours. If they went 48 their decisions would be made by player consesnus.
I'd be up for playing a forum version.
I think we'd get allot more players that way.
forum version would probably drag out fights really long, but why not?

The downside to the forum version would be:
You'd need to use another forum with a built in diceroll/rng function or talk an admin into adding one.
The pace is usually /extremely/ slow, especially when combat or skill rolls start coming into play.
Interest tends to fade fairly quickly because of the slow pace.

The above stated facts are 100% correct from my experience. Yet it was still fun while it lasted (several months).

I'd like to actually play, rather than just roleplay our characters- not that that isn't fun, but that's all we did. I had fun when we were doing it last time, but it took us 3 sessions to kill a few rats- and we were only doing about a session a week, and usually were missing 3-4 people. If we spend some time figuring out a more expedient way to do things, I'm absolutely in. I've never really gotten the opportunity to PLAY the game.

^ If we could setup something like this, I feel like we'd be far more productive when it comes to a bunch of people actually playing.
Example of the program in use:

find someone willing to do the prep for rptools... looked daunting
I actually downloaded it months ago just to play around with it seeing how hard it would be to actually learn and get something working with it, and honestly its not that hard. There is a slight learning curve and getting everything setup would require a bit of work.
But honestly, I've watched their entire first session (the video I linked) one day because I was bored and I was interested in learning how it actually played out. It seems like one of those things that if everyone was on board with doing it, we could easily make it happen.
I feel like since its more visual, like we are actually playing a table top game together, there is slightly more incentive to want to keep playing. Because you have a visual representation of whats going on at all times.
The system itself is self contained I believe, meaning its got the chat and everything built into it. I believe people have to set up most of their own macros, but its not to hard. I'd have to take a look at the newest versions again and see if I'm indeed correct.
The only reason I haven't jumped on this myself and started a game this way is because I really don't know how to DM at all. I am just new to the game in general, only having played with Gun and OB as DMs. However I would be willing to learn how to work all of the RPtools and help anyone understand it, that is if it would get more people interested in playing.
Anyone who likes to DM take a look at the video (skim through, don't watch the whole thing unless you want to.) and let me know what you think. I'd be willing to help you out with it if needed.
I tried DMing with rptools a game of CGen once a long time ago; let me just say: RPTools is meant for D&D. It was difficult to setup, but to it's credit, the DM has to be very knowledgeable of the system before hand, so the players won't have to do much configuring of anything during the game. For instance, each player can be set up in advance by the DM, each skill/stat/monster can be set up in advance. The game can progress so that certain icons on the screen are representative of monsters and the terrain. The system can be used as little or as much as you like. Last I looked, the system supported quite a bit of extra customizability, and it would require the DM to be fairly techno-savy to be able to set it all up so the players aren't struggling and the game is consistent.
That being said, I can't run a game on here, I would love to and I had a good time DMing before, but I don't have the time. Maybe when I'm done with school I can do it again, but as it is, not enough time in the day. Any other people feel like learning to GM? I can give you plenty of pointers.
it would require the DM to be fairly techno-savy
Well then nov is out... :P
but I don't have the time
Wives are stupid...
It's not the wife, believe me. It's the school. :P
It's not the wife, believe me. It's the school.
Yeah, school is pretty stupid too. Working this internship makes it feel like I have all the time in the world.
if we do the prep work I'm fairly certain we can bully Gun into running...
Gun wants to be a player I bet.
Duh. Because I find the time doesn't mean I have the enthusiasm. :P
Except for Zombies, went all out there, you two missed just over a 3rd of what I had typed away. Were good events. The fort held a Arika style flesh-blob, one of the women there was preggers, duct taped flak jackets under three bus seats, a siren impact grenade canister on the Brotherhood of Steel'ish paladin, were two junkies(one turning) with a plastic crate full of drugs in the house nat landed on, the Apache chopper had green-to-blue flash napalm, the Wal-mart drug counter had a kalashnikov with dual bayonet that fell over and tripped a trap, and would added the large gas tank at the casino to the spot check if you had not wasted the RPG! I had this scene where cats spilled out the side door. You had to be punished. If I didn't tell you this already nov, you could have injected yourself into one of the two baby spiders or the later 80ft daddy longlegs I lovingly labeled the Pholsari(first four letters from the spider, last four from Kim Jong's monster movie)but would still die when the 1950's blob or the CO2 bank car cannon came into play. The spiders were also cannibals. Great times. :)
btw still dislike doing old timey elven fantasy stuff
So do nasty hellish stuff...
One can roleplay as Micheal Bay for only so long. :P
that AFMBE session is still far and away my favorite game ever, and that includes my Maug killing 17 Kobolds in a round wack-a-mole style... I can't imagine how I'd have survived even if I'd turned the mama mobile into an acid spitting turret
