Fix the Nub..... (in General)

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 25 2011 12:32 AM EST

This is utter crap and should never happen in any game, EVER..

Why should this player (only 6 days total on CB).

http://www.carnageblender.com/inspect_opponent.tcl?opponent_id=145828&opponent_name=San+Guo+Yan+Yi

Have more of a chance to reach the top. Then someone like well this character?

I have a feeling I'll be gone long before my NCB ends rather then put up with this crap..

I think you're mad because you used to farm me and now the tables have turned. But you are entitled to your own opinions.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 25 2011 12:36 AM EST

What's your complaint exactly?

The NUB is a one time shot at getting something like what a long time player has... it exists because Jon believed it would help resolve the issue of new folks leaving because they didn't really have the opportunity a long time player did.

The NCB is a functional way for another shot at a top tier character... there are plenty of examples of it working, I just don't see what is so confusing about this.

Pretty much? The point being you shouldn't be farming me already to begin with though ;P

What about all the veterans that are not in the top 20 or so? They will "never" be able to compete with a well run NUB. Why do you think things are so dang stagnate?

The NCB is a functional way for another shot at a top tier character...

Please run an NCB before remarking about it.

There are plenty of examples of either massive USD"s being used or the new "flavor of the month" exploit being abused.

My apologies if my first response was negative. But let me say that while the NUB is a huge bonus for me, I also work hard to improve my character. For the past 6 days, I have missed less than 100 BA total. So it's not as if I didn't work hard to get where I am at.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 25 2011 12:52 AM EST

I'm in the same boat.. The only BA I missed was because I didn't want to burn during money time.

Done, it's easy... old players can compete with top 10 players...

But that's not to say there isn't problems with the NCB.

Stormbringer November 25 2011 1:28 AM EST

I started on March 16th 2011. I'm doing well and my NUB is to thank for that. I think I'm in the top 20 maybe even higher.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 25 2011 1:54 AM EST

I was the first person to start an NCB (at least the first day) thank you very much Kef...

I hit top 5 score with my second NCB, I currently own the largest single minion NCB (thank you Titan).

The NCB has produced more top 10 mpr characters than the NUB if my memory serves me correctly

QBRanger November 25 2011 1:59 AM EST

Unfortunately the NCB is prohibitively expensive but for a very few players.

It is too expensive I would not even try one, if my goal was to get to the top.

The time needed for a successful NCB is also quite burdensome.

I completely realize the rationale behind the highly elevated BA costs, but at some point we need to think, as a community, if it is better to keep it high for the sake of realism vs letting older players have a break and have a chance at the top.

Remember old players with a NCB only have xp benefit. NUBs still have the money and xp benefit along with free BA.

I personally, in the absence of a Rolling Bonus, would like to see the BA costs for a NCB be cut at least by a factor of 3.

It would still be a negative sum equation, however, it would give non-USD players a chance to run a top level character.

Which can only make the game more fun for everyone.

I do realize my suggestion is not fair to NWO, however I hope he understands my thoughts.

Sickone November 25 2011 4:59 AM EST

The NUB is a one time shot

The larger part of the problem.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] November 25 2011 7:29 AM EST

I was a vocal opponent of the nub during the "nub wars"

6 years on, I doubt there would be any CB without it.

This.

Sickone November 25 2011 10:41 AM EST

Or, you know, just make all extra BA free for everybody at all times :P

TH3 C0113CT0R November 25 2011 10:51 AM EST

You know what makes me mad. a 6 day old character with more rares then I ever owned... Prior to my return anyway. Rares fly around like bees in a honey farm now.

TH3 C0113CT0R November 25 2011 11:00 AM EST

may as well delete the rest of the normal items.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] November 25 2011 11:50 AM EST

True.

But if a better solution had been put in place, I'm sure 6 years on CB wouldn't have the ~100 playerbase it does now.

QBOddBird November 25 2011 1:12 PM EST

I can barely believe we have 100 active players. It doesn't seem like we even have that many, given forum and chat activity.

Sickone November 25 2011 2:22 PM EST

109 players who have logged in and done something in the past whole week.
Subtract about 10-20 new players that vanish without a trace, subtract people that only log in once every few days to check on things, and I'd be surprised if we have much more than 50 people that are ACTUALLY active (as in using up most of the BA they accrue).

Let's see... you normally need on average roughly 3 logins a day to use up most of your BA even when you're in 6/20, let's say 16 logins minimum instead of 21 logins per week to be counted as "active enough".
16 logins per week would show up as a minimum of 4 hours of weekly logged-in time, because each login registers as at least 15 minutes.

Only 56 users have over 16 logins combined across the last week, so AT MOST 56 users could possibly be considered really active.

Quyen November 25 2011 2:24 PM EST

im one :D

QBRanger November 25 2011 2:24 PM EST

To be fair, some people keep CB active all the time.

I know I do on one of my computers.

Sickone November 25 2011 2:25 PM EST

P.S. I don't consider myself all that active at all (I have more than a few missed BA this past week), but I still managed to rake up over 8 hours in the past 7 days (most of them as 15-minute logins with maybe a couple of longer stays over some forum chatter, but still probably at least 25 logins).

Goku November 25 2011 2:26 PM EST

cache flush refreshes automatically Ranger so that number is accurate

Sickone November 25 2011 2:28 PM EST

To be fair, some people keep CB active all the time.

I don't know how they count that server-side, but I would almost bet that as soon as you burn at least 1 BA, you get +15 minutes to the online timer.
Maybe somebody who can actually check that could post how that timer works.

Still, 50-ish active-ish people sounds about right.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 25 2011 2:31 PM EST

clan mvp's give a pretty good pic, especially if you add in the active forgers from econ clans.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] November 25 2011 2:31 PM EST

If you leave CB constantly up all the time it doesn't show you as active.

Sickone November 25 2011 2:35 PM EST

If you leave CB constantly up all the time it doesn't show you as active.

But is it just number of logins * 15 minutes, or do other things trigger it ?
How is that counter calculated anyway ?
If you start burning some BA, does it consider you active after you started burning some ?

Quyen November 25 2011 3:03 PM EST

clan mvp's give a pretty good pic, especially if you add in the active forgers from econ clans.

i got a really low CPs while im still pretty active (even if i say it myself) :|

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 25 2011 3:07 PM EST

i would consider the first two columns in weekly clan mvp's as fairly active, this one includes you.

TH3 C0113CT0R November 25 2011 3:40 PM EST

i may not be clan mvp but im here lots :P really going to hate the next month...
