After watching this lecture by the infamous Cory Doctorow, please tell me what your opinion is regarding restriction of general computing ALA locking down devices (iPod, iPad, DRM).

55 minutes is a lifetime to sit and watch a video.

Any chance you can sum this up?

While it does a disservice to him to try and sum up everything he says in a couple sentences, I'll try my best.

He talks about how people want general purpose computers that can do anything you want, except this thing because it makes me angry.

e.g.

* I want a computer that can do anything I want, except transmit copyrighted files.

* I want a computer that can do anything I want, except open Excel files.

* I want a computer that can do anything I want, except display certain numbers to the user.

* I want a computer that can do anything I want, except copy files.

Very interesting! I've known about most of the things he talked about, before, but this guy gives me hope that we can beat back these fiends that are trying to take away our freedom. At the same time, he motivates me to not relax, too much, because our enemies are stupid, but dangerous!

Btw, I loved his comment about how his wife used to play Quake, for England. XD))
